Job summary

General Excavating Company is seeking an experienced Underground Laborer in Lincoln, Nebraska. The role focuses on installation and maintenance of water, storm, and sanitary sewer utilities, pipe placement, and related tasks.

The position requires experience with underground utilities, pipe laying, and basic heavy equipment operations. You will work year-round, often 40–60 hours per week during peak season, outdoors in all weather, with on-the-job training and occasional travel opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in underground utilities and pipe laying is required.
  • Pre-employment drug screen is required.
  • Must meet qualifications of a motor vehicle record (MVR) review).

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain water, storm, and sanitary sewer utilities.
  • Place, join, align, and seal pipes for water, sewer, and storm drains.
  • Mix, smooth, and finish concrete as needed.
  • Operate basic heavy equipment as required.
  • Travel on occasion and work year-round with 40–60 hours/week during peak season.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and maintain a good driving record.

Position Summary

General Excavating is hiring an experienced Underground Laborer in Lincoln, NE. This role involves the installation and maintenance of water, storm, and sanitary sewer utilities, pipe placement, and related tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Relevant experience with underground utility work, pipe laying, and basic heavy equipment operations.
  • Perform physical labor including placing pipe in and out of ditches.
  • Position, join, align, and seal pipe for water, sanitary sewer, and storm drains.
  • Mix, smooth, and finish concrete as needed.
  • Work with compounds and spray materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, etc.
  • Work year‑round, 40–60 hours/week during peak season.
  • Work outdoors in uncontrolled climate in all types of weather.
  • Measure distances and level earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Generally work Monday‑Friday; weekends only when necessary.
  • Seasonal snow removal.
  • Receive on‑the‑job training; need to travel on occasion.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
Requirements
  • Experience in underground utilities and pipe laying.
  • Successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screen.
  • Meet qualifications of a motor vehicle record review.
