Job summary

Rumpke is seeking a General Laborer to support facilities grounds maintenance at our Georgetown, KY location. You will perform mowing, cleanup, tool operation, and assist in various lines of business, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

The role requires a reliable, self-starting attitude, good communication with customers and team members, and ability to read and respond to safety training in English. Overtime, nights, and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude preferred.
• Self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with customers and colleagues.
• Must be able to read and speak English well enough to understand safety training and directions.
• Experience working with various hand tools and equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facility grounds, including mowing, trimming, and litter pickup.
• Operate hand-held, electrical, and gas-powered tools and equipment.
• Ensure safe operating condition of equipment per policy and OSHA.
• Assist with organization and distribution of waste carts and bins.
• Practice safe driving when transporting, loading, and unloading containers.
• Assist on route as needed; help in maintenance shops and offices.
• Perform minor repairs and general upkeep of facilities.
• Clean, prepare, and paint containers; assist erosion-control installations.
• Interact professionally with customers and internal teams.
• Pressure-wash and repair waste carts, bins, containers, and portable restrooms; prep for delivery.

General Laborers are responsible for general upkeep and maintenance of the facilities and facility grounds. General Laborers may also perform custodial duties in the offices, maintenance shops, etc. This position may also assist in various lines of business.

Responsibilities of Position:

• Maintain facility grounds-keeping including but not limited to mowing, trimming, picking up paper/trash from facility grounds and surrounding areas
• Operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools, and equipment
• Maintain and ensure the safe operating condition of assigned equipment and tools according to Company policy and OSHA
• Assist with the organization and distribution of waste carts and bins
• Perform safe driving practices while transporting, loading, and unloading containers and bins
• Act as a helper on route as needed
• Assist with general housekeeping of maintenance shops and offices
• Perform minor repairs and general upkeep of facilities
• Clean, prepare, and paint containers
• Build, repair, and install erosion control such as silt fence and straw bales
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers
• Pressure-wash and perform minor repairs to waste carts, bins, containers, and portable rest rooms and prepare for delivery as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Mechanical aptitude preferred
• Self-starter, strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• Experience working with various hand tools and equipment preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Continuously lifting/carrying a max of 10 lbs
• Frequently pushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
• Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
