Job summary

W. SILVER is seeking a General Laborer to unload, sort, and package ferrous and nonferrous materials in a busy facility. The role also supports cleaning of equipment and general housekeeping.

Candidates should be able to read and write English, work safely in indoor/outdoor conditions, and perform routine inspections and paperwork. Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week with potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Unload materials from customer vehicles.
  • Sort material properly for shipment preparation.
  • Package materials in designated forms (bales, boxes, pallets).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Operate hand tools and machines safely according to standards.
  • Assist in daily paperwork and reports.

Job description

The General Laborer is responsible for unloading, sorting, and packaging of ferrous and nonferrous materials. This role is also tasked with the cleaning of customer equipment as well as housekeeping duties of the entire facility/property.

Essential Functions

Material expert of material processed in station.

Cleaning/maintaining of customer assigned equipment.

Cleaning/maintaining of facility/property.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility

This role operates in both an indoor and outdoor environment. The employee is also exposed to weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, high winds and dusty or muddy areas depending on assignment. The employee is at times exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Follows, uses, implements and strives for deeper understanding of WSR 11 Rules of The Road.

Knowledgeable and safe operation of assigned work area

Attend and participate in safety and operations meetings as directed.

Report any injury or damage of any kind to the supervisor immediately.

Assist in performing routine inspections of work area as per instructions; reporting any unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor

Safely operate all assigned hand tools and machines according to company safety standards and instructions as well as manufacturer’s guidelines.

Assist in packaging materials in designated form such as bales, super sacks, boxes, pallets, etc. according to instructions or processing guidelines.

Highly knowledgeable in metal recognition (type, grade)

Sort material properly and timely for shipment preparation.

Assist Supervisors with accurate, complete, legible, and timely completion of paperwork, tally sheets, production tickets, and/or reports.

Manually unload materials from customer vehicles.

Assists in cleaning customer baskets, bins, open-top trailers as needed.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Assist Supervisor in sweeping, cleaning and maintaining a clean facility inside and outside.

Performing other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or department manager.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; kneel; squat; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; Must be able to push, pull or carry up to thirty pounds. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs. Must be able to utilize hand tools and operator controls.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Full-time (40 hours per week) position, Monday through Friday in the hours of 7:00am to 4:00pm. Overtime hours during the week as needed. Weekend work on an as needed basis.
