Job summary

Construction Job Force in Everett, WA is seeking a Marine Painter to support high-priority U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects.

Qualifications

  • Shipboard painting experience, with 2+ years of shipboard paint experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in marine painting and paint preparation, including sanding, grinding, masking, and cleaning.
  • Experience performing preservation, coating, sanding, and prepping work on Navy vessels or similar marine platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shipboard painting, touch-ups, and preservation on a variety of structures and components.
  • Carry out sanding, grinding, chipping, masking, and other surface preparation tasks to ensure proper coating adhesion.
  • Assist senior technicians with coating application, including primers, topcoats, and preservation materials.
  • Handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently in shipboard and shipyard environments.
  • Apply coatings and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other confined compartments.
  • Conduct cleaning and post-application cleanup to maintain safe and orderly workspaces.
  • Use tools such as needle guns, grinders, and other pneumatic or electric equipment to remove coatings and prepare surfaces.
  • Work aboard ships, piers, dry docks, and industrial marine facilities while following strict safety protocols and NAVSEA standards.
  • Operate JLG manlifts or forklifts if qualified and assigned, to access work areas or move materials.
  • Support corrosion mitigation, composite installation, and ship systems repair activities as directed by supervisors and technicians.
  • Follow confined space entry procedures and tank preservation practices when working in restricted areas.
  • Adhere to project schedules and complete assignments on time in a high-tempo, project-driven environment.
  • Comply with all base access, security, and DBIDS requirements while working on Navy installations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, teammates, and support staff to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
  • Maintain strong attendance, punctuality, and reliability to support ongoing project needs.

Job description

Job Title: Marine Painter

This role supports high-priority U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects by performing shipboard preservation work, including painting, surface preparation, and coating application on active naval vessels. You will work in a fast-paced, industrial marine environment on ships, piers, dry docks, and related facilities, directly contributing to fleet sustainment, corrosion control, and composite component installation. The position offers immediate engagement on a large-scale Navy initiative with the opportunity to build specialized skills in marine coatings, ship systems maintenance, and industrial preservation practices.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to apply coatings, primers, and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other compartments.
  • Understanding of marine coating processes, including surface preparation, grinding, sanding, masking, and cleanup activities.
  • Experience with needle gunning and other coating removal methods in marine or industrial environments.
  • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in industrial marine environments.
  • Capability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for extended periods, and operate basic pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and weekends as required by project schedules.
  • Strong attendance, communication, and follow‑through, demonstrating a reliable work ethic.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior shipyard, ship repair, or industrial/manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with marine coatings, including understanding temperatures, cure times, and mixing procedures.
  • Familiarity with confined space entry procedures and tank preservation practices.
  • Experience with blasting or ultra‑high‑pressure water jetting for coating removal or surface preparation.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items related to marine coatings, preservation, and shipboard work.
  • Firewatch or tank watch experience in shipyard or industrial environments.
  • Experience working on Navy platforms such as CVNs, DDGs, LCS, or amphibious ships.
  • JLG (manlift) experience for at least three candidates and forklift experience for at least one candidate, as required by the project team composition.
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • OSHA‑10 or OSHA‑Shipyard certification is a plus and may enhance safety and compliance readiness.
  • Comfort working in deckplate industrial conditions, including confined spaces, heights, and active shipboard environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team‑based setting with onsite supervision and coordinated tasks.

Work Environment

Personal protective equipment is mandatory and provided, and all tasks follow strict safety protocols, NAVSEA standards, and base regulations. The atmosphere is team‑based with onsite supervision, emphasizing coordination, communication, and adherence to safety and security requirements while working in demanding physical and environmental conditions.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
