Job summary

Green Circle Growers, Inc. is seeking a General Labor worker to prepare flowers and plants for shipping, including planting, cultivating, and maintaining nursery stock. You will handle seedlings, baskets, and containers, and assist with loading and unloading, while maintaining clean work areas.

The role requires physical stamina, the ability to work in varying temperatures, and reliable attendance, including Saturdays. Prior nursery/production experience is valued.

Qualifications

• At least 3 months of nursery/manufacturing/assembly/shipping/receiving experience.
• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Ability to perform manual tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
• Lift up to 20lbs; push/pull carts up to 200lbs.
• Work in extreme temperatures; long periods of standing.
• Reliable transportation and weekend availability.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions; compliance with safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Pot and plant seedlings, fill and label trays, move product to greenhouses and prepare orders.

• Move containerized plants using rolling or electric carts.

Green Circle Growers was founded in 1968 by John van Wingerden. With just a few acres, Green Circle Growers began selling to other companies like variety stores, lumber yards, hardware stores, and grocery stores. Today, Green Circle Growers is still owned and operated by the van Wingerden family and has grown to over 170 acres of indoor growing space. Our state-of-the-art greenhouses offer many different environments to keep up with the demanding mix of products that today’s market expects. We now provide plants to regional and national stores across the United States and Canada. We are able to market and offer broad products to mass merchants, as well as to growers. The retail market expects the full line of annuals in flats, containers, and baskets. The grower line produces pre-finished containers, plugs, and liners.

POSITION OVERVIEW

General Labor is responsible for the preparation of flowers and other plants for shipping and sale to our customers. The General Labor position includes planting, cultivating, and maintaining nursery seedlings and plants including perennials, bedding plants, plugs, liners, vegetable plants, and hanging baskets. The General Labor position directly contributes to the highest quality plants in the industry.

JOB DUTIES

• Pot and plant seedlings, fill and label trays, move product to greenhouses, organize product on docks for loading, and pull and/or assemble orders in accordance with instruction
• Attach hangers to baskets and hang through seasonal holding houses using ladders
• Move containerized plants using rolling or electric carts
• Load and unload trucks, supplies, and product from conveyor belt
• Lift, carry, and load and unload products or supplies
• Clear debris from production floor and greenhouse and clean and maintain farm buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have at least 3 months of nursery/manufacturing/assembly/shipping/receiving experience
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be able to:
  • oPerform manual tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • oLift items and products up to 20lbs
  • oPush and pull carts that can weigh up to 200lbs
  • oUse hand tools including, but not limited to, shovels, shears, and clippers
  • oFollow verbal and written direction
  • oBend, stoop, kneel, and climb
  • oHave good attendance
  • oHave a positive attitude and be willing to work
  • oWork in extreme temperatures based on season
  • oWork at a fast pace, with long periods of standing, bending, or sitting
• Must adhere to safety policies and procedures
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must have availability to work Saturday’s and additional hours as dictated by the daily schedule

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS

• Plant/Production facility, occasionally outside, or in-store; Possible extreme heat/cold dependent on season
• Continuously requires ability to ffollow verbal and/or written direction
• Frequently requires walking, lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling (up to 200lbs), bending, and crouching
• Occasionally requires sitting, standing, fine dexterity, climbing and handling
• May require ability to operate machinery, drive vehicles (truck, car, van, tug, forklift) or use equipment such as hand tools, computers, or general business equipment
• CDL license or tug/forklift certification may be required
