Job summary

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. in Newington, CT, has an entry-level plant operation role. The individual will receive training across multiple positions to support plant operations and ensure safe, efficient production.

The job requires following SOPs, operating packaging and filling equipment, and maintaining accurate production records. Training is provided, and the shift may include days, swing, or night rotations to cover a 24/7 schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years demonstrated work experience in food manufacturing or warehousing.
• Experience in milk pasteurization is a plus.
• Good math skills.
• Proficient computer skills, SAP a plus.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated work history and good attendance.
• Shift flexibility for a 24/7 manufacturing facility.
• Ability to follow SOPs in detail and communicate issues clearly.
• Ability to operate packaging and lifting equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Safe and efficient operation of production equipment including packaging, conveyors, lift trucks, and filling equipment.
• Follow standard operating procedures without deviation.
• Set up packaging coders and validate product codes per specifications.
• Identify out-of-spec conditions and follow notification protocol.
• Perform routine equipment adjustments and use hand tools.
• Safely operate lift trucks and move materials as needed.
• Accurately complete production records and documents.
• Assist with equipment change-overs, CIP/SIP, cleaning, and setup.
• Ensure pasteurization per state and federal regulations.
• Maintain environmental controls and perform housekeeping per guidelines.
• Cross-train with other departments and support audits.

This is an entry-level plant operation position. If hired, the employee will receive training in multiple position in support of plant operations.

Position Responsibilities

• Safe and efficient operation of production equipment, which may include: packaging equipment, conveying equipment, lift truck operation and filling equipment.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's) in detail without deviation.
• Set-up packaging coders, validate product codes in accordance with code specifications.
• Identify and effectively communicate any out-of-specification product conditions. Follow the established notification protocol.
• Perform routine equipment adjustments. Use of various hand tools.
• Safe operation of a lift truck, moving materials throughout shift as needed/required.
• Accurately and neatly complete production records and documents.
• Assist with equipment change-overs, CIP/SIP, clean-up and equipment set-up.
• Product pasteurization in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
• Perform department environmental controls.
• Perform manual palletizing operations based on stack pattern and customer requirements.
• Perform product reclaim and rework operations.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Follow all established occupational health and safety procedures.
• Follow all established GMP's and Food Safety requirements.
• Cross-train with other departments.
• Perform good housekeeping within established housekeeping guidelines.
• Adhere to the Saputo Code of Ethics, actively apply the Saputo Company Values and Workplace Climate Policy.
• Work together in a team environment with co-workers and other department personnel.
• Other duties as required by management.

Job requirements

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in manufacturing environment which includes but not limited to: noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, humid), standing/walking/bending/stooping/climbing stairs, maneuvering around manufacturing equipment consistently throughout the shift.
• Fine manipulation and dexterity, gripping and squeezing.
• Visual acuity with the ability to see color.
• Working with chemicals, wearing personal protective equipment and following approved chemical handling procedures.
• Physical lifting up to 40-lbs frequently throughout the shift and 40+ lbs with assistance.
• Shift flexiibility. This is a hands-on role for a 24/7 manufacturing facility. Our equipment operators are assigned to a team on a 24/7 operation to support manufacturing. This can either be rotating, days, swing or night shifts and weekends. Work days and shifts may change to help cover vacations/absences, during plant downtime or related events such as audits.
