About Everett Ship Repair

Everett Ship Repair (ESR) is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere ship repair facility. Founded in 2019, ESR offers repair, maintenance, and conversion services for commercial vessels, with a focus on workboats and passenger vessels. With the U.S. Navy as a neighbor, we pursue business in that market, leveraging our dry‑docking capacity and a team of industry veterans. ESR strives to continuously improve repair and construction methods, creating efficient, reliable processes.

Apprenticeship Opportunities

We are seeking candidates for Apprentice and Electrician In‑Training positions across the following trades: Marine Pipefitters, Marine Painters, Machinery Assemblers, Production Welders, Ship Fitter/Fabricators, and Electricians.

ESR’s apprenticeship program develops journeypersons through on‑the‑job training, classroom instruction, and mentorship. The program follows Washington State Department of Labor & Industries requirements, offering 3 hours of unpaid classroom instruction per week. Apprentices must maintain a cumulative GPA of 80%.

What You Will Do

Depending on the trade, apprentices learn to build vessel structures, fabricating and installing piping, machinery, hull components, and preparing surfaces for painting or welding. Functions vary by trade and are detailed on our website. Regardless of trade, apprentices will:

  • Practice safe work practices and housekeeping procedures.
  • Work as a team member, demonstrating adaptability, interpretation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Express ideas concisely in oral and written communication.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Once admitted to apprenticeship, duties also include:

  • Regular attendance during classes and presentations.
  • Demonstrating competence on practical exams at each step of the apprenticeship; successful completion of required classwork and passing scores on tests.
  • Recording and tracking on‑the‑job training (OJT) hours daily.
  • Having a journeyman or higher sign off on hours weekly.
  • Submitting a copy of monthly hours tracking to supervisors.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; work at heights up to 60 ft.; enter confined spaces using a respirator; work in small workspaces at odd angles.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency.
  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
  • Willingness to learn the trade and attend required training.
  • Experience with safe work practices.
  • Eligibility for state‑certified apprenticeship program, including attending 144–216 classroom hours annually (no wage compensation).
  • Experience working around heavy machinery and equipment and as a team member.
  • Successful completion of a craft‑related technical training program or equivalent work experience.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions as a team member.
  • Personal attributes sought in apprentices/pre‑apprentices include:
  • Interest in the selected trade through work experience, personal projects, hobbies, or other pursuits.
  • Commitment to self‑development, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Proof of U.S. person status.
  • Willingness to submit to a drug screen.
  • Willingness to submit to a background check.
  • No felony convictions of theft, deception, drug, or violent crimes.
  • Academic ability to succeed in the program.
