Overview

VCU Health - Richmond, VA. The overarching mission of the Department of Internal Medicine is the pursuit of excellence in each facet of its tripartite mission: to educate physicians and health care professionals of tomorrow, today, and the community-at-large; to provide superior, compassionate, and innovative clinical care to our patients using state‑of‑the‑art knowledge and resources; and to conduct and disseminate cutting‑edge biomedical research and scholarship, with a focus on translational research that can be quickly applied to the care of patients. The Division of Infectious Diseases provides clinical care to patients with all types of infectious processes in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching time and effort shall be devoted to teaching and teaching‑related activities. This shall include medical students, dental students, graduate students, allied health students, residents, fellows, and colleagues where appropriate. Teaching responsibilities also shall be considered to include preparation of instructional materials, evaluative materials, testing and maintenance of personal professional skills through continuing education, advising and mentoring trainees, and participation in academic reinforcement programs.
  • Research time and effort shall be devoted to funded research‑related activities. Efforts to obtain funding for your research in areas of focus consistent with the mission of the School of Medicine and Department must be demonstrated during your employment. In addition, reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected.
  • Clinical time and effort shall be devoted to the provision of clinical services. You are expected to maintain a practice in Infectious Diseases (ID) to include both inpatient and outpatient service, integrate students and residents into this service, establish outpatient transplant infectious disease clinics, and contribute to scholarly and research activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Board eligible or board certified M.D. (or equivalent M.B.B.S or D.O.) with experience in infectious diseases or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience with Infectious Diseases.
  • Record of publication and conference dissemination demonstrating expertise in the faculty’s area of research.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Candidate must qualify for an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in management of complex infectious diseases.
