Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking candidates for a manufacturing support role in a team environment. The position involves assisting with fabrication, material handling, and basic machining under guidance from experienced team members. No prior experience is required as training will be provided.

Applicants should be able to work the 3:00pm–11:30pm shift, lift up to 20 pounds, and follow safety protocols. A High School diploma or equivalent is required, with strong attention to detail and teamwork valued.

  • Recordkeeping in the Manufacturing Database and adhere to quality standards.
  • Ask questions when instructions are not clear and maintain a clean, safe workspace.

The hours for this position are 3:00pm - 11:30pm

This position works among a team of individuals manufacturing products for our customers under the guidance of experienced team members. The role entails such functions as kitting, loading/unloading machines, and manual machining. On the job training will be provided, no experience is necessary.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:
  • Assist workers engaged in fabricating and processing materials and parts.
  • Sort and count parts and materials.
  • Examine parts and materials for defects.
  • Feed, load, or remove parts from machines.
  • Handle and Clean Specialty Fiber Optics, Precision Optics, and mechanical components.
  • Must be able to understand written work instructions for a wide range of products to properly manufacture the final product to the highest of quality standards and with a goal of zero scrap or rework.
  • Maintain proper records in our Manufacturing Database.
  • Ask questions when instructions are not understood or clear.
  • Comply with the company safety program and maintain a clean and organized work area.
In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Requirements
Physical Activities:

Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.

Qualifications Experience:

None required, training will be provided. Experience in manufacturing or hands on work preferred.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and comply with high quality standards.
  • Good work ethic.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.

Basic mathematic knowledge.

  • Proficient in basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office.
