Job summary

Neighborhood Health Association (NHA) seeks a licensed dentist to join our Toledo, OH team. You will review patient histories, diagnose oral health, perform endodontic procedures, take x-rays, administer anesthetics, and develop comprehensive treatment plans in a fast-paced, safety-conscious clinic.

  • One-year current experience as a dentist preferred.
  • DDS or DDM; Ohio license required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Typing speed of 35 wpm.
  • Working knowledge of dental and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient medical and dental histories.
  • Examine teeth and gums, diagnose conditions and plan treatments.
  • Take high-quality dental x-rays and administer anesthesia.
  • Develop and implement patient treatment plans.
  • Provide guidance and education on preventive dental care.
  • Maintain a safe clinical environment and comply with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review medical and dental histories.
  • Use masks, gloves and safety glasses to protect self and patients from infectious disease.
  • Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities and plan appropriate treatments.
  • Take high-quality x-rays.
  • Examine x rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and nearby areas for problems
  • Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures.
  • Formulate plan of treatment for patient’s teeth and mouth tissue.
  • Use air turbine and hand instruments, dental appliances and surgical implements.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries or malformations of teeth, gums or related oral structures and provide preventive or corrective services.
  • Advise or instruct patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems or oral health care services.
  • Write prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications.
  • Treat exposure of pulp-by-pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber or root canal, using dental instruments.
  • Fill pulp chamber and canal with endodontic materials
  • Remove diseased tissue using surgical instruments
  • Eliminate irritating margins of fillings and correct occlusions, using dental instruments.
  • Apply fluoride or sealants to teeth.
  • Analyze or evaluate dental needs to determine changes or trends in patterns of dental disease.
  • Clean or polish teeth to restore natural color.
  • Plan, organize or maintain dental health programs
  • Provide input into the periodic evaluation of dental assistants and dental hygienists.
  • Provide guidance and/or training to dental assistants.
  • Produce or evaluate dental educational materials.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Participates in QA meetings and duties as assigned.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Familiar with the center’s Fire and Disaster plan and the role of the Dentist in that plan.
  • Knowledgeable of and adhere to departmental and agency policies.
  • Perform related work as required or requested by manager.
  • Regular, Punctual Attendance is a requirement of this position.
Qualifications:
  • One-year current experience as a dentist, strongly preferred.
  • Graduate of a dental DDS or DDM school.
  • Must be licensed as a Dentist (DDS or DDM) by the State of Ohio.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Typing skills of 35 accurate wpm
  • Working knowledge of dental and medical terminology
  • Pleasant and respectful manner in dealing with patients and staff
  • Ability to work under demanding, stressful conditions
  • Neat appearance, punctual, detail oriented
  • Must be well organized, professional, flexible and have good interpersonal skills
  • Must show initiative and ability to use sound judgment in the absence of specific orders
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Must be able to work independently
