Job summary

BVNK is seeking a General Counsel to serve as the US legal advisor, guiding the company through complex regulatory landscapes in payments and fintech. The GC will lead the US legal function, advise the executive team and board, manage external counsel, and collaborate with Mastercard during BVNK’s integration.

This role requires strong commercial law experience, strategic thinking, and a track record of building high-performing legal teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Legal leadership within fintech, payments, or technology sectors.
• Strong expertise in commercial law and structuring strategic agreements.
• Proven track record providing legal guidance for product and business teams in regulated sectors.
• Deep knowledge of US regulatory frameworks in financial services and payments.
• Ability to interpret and adapt to evolving regulations across jurisdictions.
• Ability to perform under pressure with sound judgment and adaptability.
• Exceptional project management and leadership of legal teams.
• Strong drafting and communication skills with executive presence.

Responsibilities

• Act as the lead legal partner to the US business on commercial and product matters, providing pragmatic legal advice that enables growth while effectively managing risk.
• Provide product counsel across development and launch of new and existing products, advising on legal and regulatory considerations throughout the lifecycle.
• Draft, negotiate, and review key commercial contracts, including customer agreements, partnerships, and vendor agreements.
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Finance and other teams to ensure regulatory compliance across go-to-market strategies.
• Develop and implement the US legal strategy to support growth while managing risk.
• Advise executive leadership and the board on legal and regulatory matters.
• Build and lead the internal US legal team, including external counsel relationships.
• Coordinate with Mastercard’s legal team to support BVNK integration and alignment of legal/compliance matters.
