Job summary

Doma is seeking an experienced in-house counsel to act as a trusted legal partner across commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters. The role involves advising on title insurance and mortgage regulations, structuring third-party relationships, and guiding teams through risk tradeoffs.

The successful candidate will have a J.D. and active bar admission, strong negotiation and mentoring skills, and a track record handling M&A, financing, and outside counsel relationships.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active bar admission.
• Substantial experience advising businesses across commercial, regulatory, and general corporate matters.
• Strong working knowledge of residential title and mortgage transactions.
• Experience mentoring and developing legal talent.

Responsibilities

• Serve as trusted legal partner identifying and resolving legal issues, structuring third-party relationships, and guiding teams with risk tradeoffs.
• Research and advise on state regulatory requirements affecting title insurance and mortgage industries, delivering clear guidance.
• Support corporate development, financing, and strategic transactions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements for delivery and procurement of products/services.
• Provide expertise on title matters, applying judgment to assess risk and practical paths forward.
• Partner with Compliance on regulatory interactions and complex risk questions.
• Manage the company's intellectual property portfolio.
• Select and manage outside counsel relationships.
• Mentor and develop internal team members supporting contract review and legal matters.

Job description

• Serve as a trusted legal partner to the business, identifying and resolving legal issues, structuring third-party relationships, and helping teams move forward with a clear understanding of risk and tradeoffs
• Research, interpret, and advise on state regulatory requirements affecting the title insurance and mortgage industries, developing clear, practical guidance in complex or unfamiliar areas
• Support corporate development, financing, and other strategic transactions as they arise
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including agreements for both the delivery and procurement of products and services
• Provide subject matter legal expertise on individual title matters, applying legal judgment to specific facts and circumstances to assess risk and determine practical paths forward
• Partner with Compliance leadership on matters requiring legal interpretation or judgment, including regulatory interactions and complex risk questions
• Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio
• Select and manage outside counsel relationships across practice areas
• Mentor and develop internal team members supporting contract review and other legal matters, helping build legal capability across the organization
