Job summary

Single Family Office in Dallas, TX seeks a General Counsel to serve as a trusted legal advisor across the Principal's business, investments, real estate, and personal affairs.

The role offers broad exposure beyond a traditional law firm: corporate governance, transactions, real estate, regulatory compliance, and coordination with outside counsel, with a strong emphasis on strategic partnership with senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
  • 3–5 years of legal experience, preferably with a leading law firm or sophisticated in-house department.
  • Strong foundation in corporate law, commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate, or related practice areas.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts and managing complex legal matters.
  • Ability to work directly with senior executives, business leaders, or clients.
  • Interest in expanding into investment office operations, trusts and estates, tax, employment, real estate, and governance matters.
  • Exceptional judgment, maturity, and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts, service agreements, NDAs, consulting agreements, employment-related documents, and commercial contracts
  • Support corporate governance and entity management activities across the investment office and affiliated entities
  • Assist with acquisitions, dispositions, financing transactions, joint ventures, and other strategic business initiatives
  • Coordinate legal due diligence and transaction execution alongside external counsel and advisors.
  • Maintain corporate records, governance documentation, and organizational structures
  • Support legal matters related to the acquisition, ownership, financing, operation, and disposition of real estate assets
  • Review and negotiate purchase agreements, leases, construction contracts, and related documentation
  • Coordinate with external counsel on zoning, land use, permitting, and property-related matters
  • Assist with legal issues relating to ranch operations, vendors, contractors, and service providers
  • Serve as a legal resource across the office's investments, operating businesses, and personal affairs
  • Coordinate with external trust and estate attorneys, tax advisors, accountants, insurance professionals, and other advisors
  • Help evaluate and implement processes, policies, and controls that support effective operations
  • Conduct Identify legal, regulatory, and operational risks and provide practical recommendations to mitigate exposure
  • Assist with employment-related matters, including policies, agreements, and compliance issues
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments that may impact the investment office or its affiliated entities

Job description

An investment office based in Dallas, Texas is seeking a General Counsel to serve as a trusted legal advisor across the Principal's business, investment, real estate, and personal affairs.

The investment office oversees a diverse range of activities, including private investments, operating businesses, real estate holdings, oil and gas interests, aviation assets, technology ventures, ranch operations, and family-related initiatives. Working closely with the Principal, Chief of Staff, external advisors, the General Counsel will help manage legal matters across this interconnected ecosystem while ensuring risks are appropriately identified and managed.

This is a unique opportunity for an attorney early in their career who is seeking broad exposure beyond a traditional law firm environment. The role is designed for a highly analytical, business-minded professional who enjoys solving complex problems, navigating ambiguity, and serving as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership.

Operating within a lean and highly collaborative environment, the General Counsel will work across a wide variety of matters, including corporate governance, contracts, transactions, real estate, entity management, regulatory compliance, and coordination with outside counsel. The successful candidate will possess strong legal fundamentals, exceptional judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to engage in both strategic and hands‑on work.

Key Responsibilities
Corporate, Transactional & Governance Matters
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a wide variety of agreements, including vendor contracts, service agreements, NDAs, consulting agreements, employment-related documents, and commercial contracts
  • Support corporate governance and entity management activities across the investment office and affiliated entities
  • Assist with acquisitions, dispositions, financing transactions, joint ventures, and other strategic business initiatives
  • Coordinate legal due diligence and transaction execution alongside external counsel and advisors.
  • Maintain corporate records, governance documentation, and organizational structures

Qualifications

Compensation: Annual compensation range of $175,000 - $200,000, based on experience and qualifications, with comprehensive benefits
