Page Executive is recruiting the first US General Counsel for a leading global retailer expanding into the US market. The role is based at the Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters, working closely with local leadership and globally aligned legal counterparts.

The ideal candidate will hold a Juris Doctor and be in good standing with a US state bar, with deep experience in retail leasing, contracts, and multi-state employment matters. An international-brand background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor and US state bar in good standing.
• Strong preference for experience in the retail industry or similar sector with leasing, construction/store fit-out, and multi-state employment matters.
• Experience with an international brand and collaboration with senior stakeholders worldwide is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the company and senior leadership on business and compliance matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, leases, and other documents to protect interests.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws in the retail industry.
• Manage external counsel relationships.
• Develop strategies to mitigate legal risks.
• Represent the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
• Oversee corporate governance and maintain proper legal documentation.
• Provide training and guidance on legal matters and company policies.

Description

General Counsel responsibilities include:

• Provide legal advice and guidance to the company and senior leadership team on a wide range of business and compliance legal matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, leases, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in the retail industry.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel as needed.
• Develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks.
• Represent the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
• Oversee corporate governance and ensure proper legal documentation.
• Provide training and support to staff on legal matters and company policies.

Profile

The successful General Counsel should have demonstrable experience in:

• Juris Doctor and US state bar in good standing.
• Strong preference for experience in the retail industry or a similar sector encompassing leasing work, construction/ store fit-out contracts, employment matters for workforce across multiple states.
• Previous work for an international brand, working collaboratively with senior stakeholders and legal counterparts elsewhere in the world is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of corporate, compliance, and contract law.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice to leadership teams.
• Able to work from the office in Charlotte, North Carolina.
