Job summary

AOPA seeks an Aviation Writer to produce high-volume, engaging GA content for magazines and the website. You’ll pitch stories, conduct interviews, and craft print/online pieces, collaborating with photographers and editors to ensure accuracy and compelling visuals.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with 3+ years in multi-channel media, and a sport pilot certificate. Office in Frederick, MD with travel to GA events and shoots.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, minimum of three years of multi-channel media experience.
  • Sport pilot certificate or above.
  • Knowledge of grammar. Familiarity with AP and/or Chicago style.

Responsibilities

  • Ideation: pitches stories independently according to organizational priorities.
  • Reporting: gathers information using standard journalism methods including interviews and observation.
  • Writing and content creation: delivers stories for print and online daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Editing and production: collaborates with art staff to align design and photo choices with text; edits for accuracy and style.
  • Secondary functions: supports storytelling across platforms, may appear on camera, may oversee a series or topic.
