Job summary

Karma Automotive, a luxury automotive manufacturer in California, is seeking a General Assembly Repair Technician. You will diagnose, repair, and validate mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic issues identified during vehicle assembly, and perform tests to ensure safety and quality before release.

Qualified candidates have 5+ years in automotive manufacturing or OEM repair, strong diagnostics skills, and the ability to read schematics and service manuals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years in automotive manufacturing or OEM repair.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and vehicle systems.
  • Experience diagnosing with diagnostic equipment and service information.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics, assembly drawings, repair manuals, and work instructions.
  • Experience performing fit-and-finish adjustments and cosmetic repairs.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to support overtime and changing production priorities.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, functional, cosmetic, and fit-and-finish concerns identified during vehicle assembly.
  • Perform repairs involving mechanical components, electrical connectors, wiring harnesses, interior and exterior trim, and cosmetic defects.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems using diagnostic equipment, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Replace damaged or defective components while ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Perform functional testing and quality inspections to verify repairs.
  • Conduct vehicle test drives to validate repairs and performance.
  • Document repairs accurately in manufacturing and quality systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, DREs, and Supervisors to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Escalate recurring issues using production processes.
  • Perform minor body adjustments and cosmetic touch-ups as required.
  • Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

General Assembly Repair Technician
Brief Description

The General Assembly Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and validating mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, and fit-and-finish issues identified during vehicle assembly. This position supports production by performing repairs outside of standard assembly operations while ensuring each vehicle meets established safety, functional, cosmetic, and quality standards prior to release.

The ideal candidate has strong automotive mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills, understands manufacturing processes, and thrives in a fast-paced, low-volume luxury automotive environment.

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, functional, cosmetic, and fit-and-finish concerns identified during vehicle assembly.
  • Perform repairs involving mechanical components, electrical connectors, wiring harnesses, interior trim, exterior trim, closures, body panels, and appearance-related defects.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems using diagnostic equipment, service manuals, engineering documentation, and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Replace damaged, defective, or improperly installed components while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Perform functional testing and quality inspections to verify repairs have corrected identified concerns.
  • Conduct vehicle test drives when required to validate repairs and verify vehicle performance.
  • Complete repair documentation accurately within manufacturing and quality tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Design Release Engineers (DREs), Production Supervisors, and Team Leaders to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Escalate recurring quality or manufacturing issues using established production escalation processes.
  • Perform minor body adjustments, panel alignment, gap and flush corrections, interior repairs, and cosmetic touch-ups as required.
  • Support continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and root cause analysis initiatives.
  • Maintain repair equipment, diagnostic tools, and workstations in a safe and organized condition.
  • Follow all OSHA, environmental, quality, and company safety requirements.
  • Support SQDCM (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale) objectives.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Five (5) or more years of automotive manufacturing, dealership service, automotive repair, or OEM vehicle assembly repair experience.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical, electrical, and vehicle systems.
  • Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic equipment and service information.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics, assembly drawings, repair manuals, and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Experience performing fit-and-finish adjustments and cosmetic repairs.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle quality standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to support overtime and changing production priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE Master Technician certification preferred.
  • ASE certifications in Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6), Suspension & Steering (A4), Brakes (A5), or Engine Performance (A8) preferred.
  • Experience with luxury vehicle manufacturing.
  • Experience in an automotive OEM environment.
  • Familiarity with electric vehicle or hybrid vehicle systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen experience.
  • Experience with SAP or other manufacturing ERP systems.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 100% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in a manufacturing/ warehouse environment. When working in the facility, it requires the use of personal protective equipment, including (but not limited to) steel toe shoes, bump caps, and safety goggles. Reflective colored vest and ear protection is required in certain areas.

Compensation:

$27.00/per hour - $31.00/per hour. Compensation will vary DOE.
