Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design and run data pipelines on Google Cloud for GenAI use in higher education and SLED clients. You will build ELT/ETL processes, ensure data readiness, and work with cross-functional teams to align data structures with AI needs.

The role emphasizes data governance, FERPA awareness, and collaboration with GCP/Gemini teams. Hybrid remote work is supported, with a strong focus on reliability and compliance.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines for analytics or GenAI on major cloud platforms.
• Experience with data governance and data classification tooling (Dataplex, DLP) is preferred.
• Strong SQL and Python for pipeline development and data transformation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow to ingest, transform, and serve client data for GenAI use cases.
• Develop ELT/ETL processes for batch data ingestion into analytics and RAG data stores.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost; optimize BigQuery usage and Dataflow jobs.
• Classify and tag data using Dataplex and DLP to identify FERPA-sensitive data before AI use.
• Define access controls and governance policies for education and SLED data.
