Citi is seeking a Gen AI Validator, Officer (Hybrid) to independently review and challenge AI/ML systems within Model Risk Management. You will work across business lines to ensure responsible AI governance and risk controls, engaging with developers, governance teams, and regulators.

The role emphasizes analytical rigor and effective communication. The position offers a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, with opportunities to influence risk standards across markets

Qualifications

• Master's degree or above in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, AI, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
• 4+ years of analytics experience in financial services or related industry, with at least 2 years on Generative AI, Agentic AI or ML.
• Hands-on technical knowledge of common AI/ML techniques and their financial applications.

Job Overview

Citi is looking for an AI Risk Validator specialising in Generative AI to join its AI Review and Challenge Group within the Model Risk Management organisation — a team at the centre of how one of the world's largest financial institutions governs and validates AI. In this role, you will independently assess and challenge AI and machine learning systems across business lines, markets, and functions, spanning Generative AI, Agentic AI, natural language processing, computer vision, recommender systems, and anomaly detection. Your work directly shapes the integrity and governance of AI across Citi's global operations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent reviews and substantive challenge of AI and machine learning systems throughout their full lifecycle, ensuring risks are identified and clearly communicated to stakeholders.
• Assess AI and machine learning implementations against applicable risk policies, testing standards, and procedural requirements to ensure all risk dimensions are appropriately managed.
• Engage directly with AI developers, sponsors, governance teams, internal audit, and regulators to provide clear, evidence-based challenge and guidance on AI-related risk matters.
• Validate and enhance methodologies used to measure and monitor risk across market, credit, and operational risk types, ensuring analytical rigour and accuracy.
• Prepare and contribute to responses for internal and external regulatory examinations, ensuring findings are well‑evidenced and clearly articulated.
• Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of risk frameworks, programmes, and practices that govern AI systems at scale.
• Collaborate on cross‑functional strategic initiatives within the model risk management organisation, helping to advance standards and best practices across the AI validation function.

Required qualifications & skills

• Master's degree or above in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, AI, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
• 4 or more years of analytics experience in financial services or a related industry, with at least 2 years focused on Generative AI, Agentic AI, or machine learning.
• Hands‑on technical knowledge of common AI and machine learning techniques, with the ability to critically assess their application and limitations in a financial context.
• Experience working in financial services, with a clear understanding of the risk, regulatory, and governance landscape relevant to AI systems.
• Ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally, to a range of technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams with precision, meeting deadlines and maintaining quality across all deliverables.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships across technical, risk, and governance teams.

Beneficial skills & qualifications

• Prior experience in model validation, including the independent review and challenge of quantitative models or AI systems within a financial institution.
