Job summary

GE Vernova Grid Software seeks an entry-level software engineer to join the Transmission team, contributing to the Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) for real-time grid operations used by utilities worldwide.

You will design, implement, and test features across AEMS and Habitat, participate in agile delivery, and grow knowledge of power systems and modern deployment patterns including Docker/Kubernetes in a hybrid cloud environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical discipline.
  • Foundational proficiency in at least one modern language (C++, C#, Java, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript).
  • 0-1 year experience in software engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and unit-test features across AEMS applications and the underlying Habitat platform (real-time SCADA, network applications, generation control, alarm processing, operator UI, simulation).
  • Contribute to modernization work on GridOS: containerized deployments, hybrid cloud/on-prem topologies, federated grid data fabric, and Zero Trust security patterns.
  • Participate in agile delivery inside Transmission value stream squads (feature planning, code review, CI/CD, defect triage).
  • Work with product managers, systems engineers, and customer support to translate utility operator requirements into working software.
  • Support field deployments, factory acceptance testing, and customer issue resolution as needed.
  • Grow domain fluency in transmission power systems: state estimation, contingency analysis, AGC/LFC, voltage/VAR control, WAMS, and market interfaces.

Job Description Summary

Entry-level software engineer on the GE Vernova Grid Software Transmission team, contributing to the Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) product suite that runs real-time transmission grid operations for more than 230 utilities worldwide. AEMS is the #1 EMS platform globally and serves over 40% of the world's transmission utilities. The engineer will build, test, and support software that helps operators monitor, control, and optimize the high-voltage grid, including generation dispatch, load balancing, renewable integration, system restoration, and wide-area monitoring.

Job Description

Scope and Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Foundational proficiency in at least one modern language used across the AEMS stack (C++, C#, Java, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript).
  • Working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, version control (Git), testing, and debugging.
  • Exposure to Linux and/or Windows server environments.
  • 0-1 year experience in software engineering

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The required work location is Bellevue, WA (relocation assistance is available)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior GE Vernova internship experience, particularly on Grid Software, AEMS, ADMS, DERMS, or Markets products.
  • Coursework or project experience in one or more of: power systems, control systems, distributed systems, real-time systems, cloud/Kubernetes, cybersecurity, or data engineering.
  • Familiarity with agile development, container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, or observability tooling.
  • Interest in the energy transition, grid decarbonization, or the operational software behind bulk electric systems.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $79,200.00 and $118,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
