Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Ability to pass background screening and meet state cannabis employment requirements.
  • 2+ years of full‑time, post‑academic experience with GC-MS and/or ICP-MS.
  • Strong analytical chemistry and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs and work in a regulated laboratory environment.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing of cannabis and cannabis products using GC-MS and/or ICP-MS.
  • Conduct sample preparation across multiple matrices, including reagent and standard preparation.
  • Analyze and interpret data for residual solvents, heavy metals, and contaminants.
  • Ensure compliance with PA regulations, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and internal SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
  • Execute daily instrument performance checks and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain chain‑of‑custody and accurate cannabis tracking, including destruction documentation.
  • Review, verify, and document analytical results in LIMS, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Assist with method validation, verification, and proficiency testing programs.
  • Support internal audits and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for instrument service and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory for reagents, standards, and consumables.
  • Support sample intake, accessioning, and non‑analytical testing as needed.
  • Provide guidance and workflow support to Laboratory Technicians and Assistants.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and method efficiencies.

Location: Warren, MI

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: Starting at $30/hour (commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Monday-Friday | Day Shift (8:30AM-5PM or as needed to meet turnaround times)

MI Cannalytics is seeking a Laboratory Chemist specializing in GC-MS and/or ICP-MS to support our state-licensed testing laboratory serving the Michigan cannabis market. This is a full-time, in-lab position within a fast-paced, production-driven, and highly regulated environment. This role is responsible for analytical testing, instrumentation performance, quality control, and data integrity in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations and ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical chemistry expertise, hands‑on instrumentation experience, and the ability to maintain accuracy, compliance, and efficiency under high‑throughput conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical testing of cannabis and cannabis products using GC-MS and/or ICP-MS

Work Environment
  • Fast‑paced, production‑driven laboratory environment
  • Continuous video and audio surveillance in accordance with state regulations
  • Required use of PPE (lab coat, gloves, eye protection)
  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and laboratory equipment
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move throughout the workday
  • Frequent use of hands for laboratory work and data entry
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
  • Strong visual acuity, including close vision and color differentiation
  • Ability to maintain concentration and produce accurate work consistently
