Job summary

DHL Express is seeking a Gateway Clearance Supervisor to oversee customs clearance activities for shipments moving through the gateway environment. The role requires ensuring compliance with federal and foreign regulations, reviewing documents, and coordinating release with customs officials as needed.

The successful candidate will supervise approximately 30 staff (two direct reports), hire and coach team members, and drive efficiency while meeting service standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with customs clearance processes and documentation
• Proven ability to supervise a team and manage performance
• Knowledge of relevant federal and international shipping regulations
• Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
• Experience in budgeting and cost-control within logistics
• Professional certification in relevant areas is a plus

• Ensure compliance with regulations governing shipment, receipt and documentation
• Establish and monitor policies, procedures and service standards for clearance operations
• Administer policies consistently and meet KPIs for the product

• Assign tasks, set deadlines, review work and manage performance according to policies

We have an immediate career opportunity for a qualified Gateway Clearance Supervisor. The Supervisor verifies tariffs, price conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise exported/imported to/from foreign destinations. The supervisor examines various documents including invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements. The supervisor ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products. The supervisor may contact customs officials to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages and coordinates customs clearance activities in the customs house brokerage or gateway environment in an, efficient and cost-effective manner
• Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products being shipped through all DHL facilities
• Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures and service standards for customs clearance operations
• Ensures all policies and procedures are consistently administered
• Responsible for meeting key performance indicators targets for a given product
• Supervises a staff of approximately 30 with two direct reports. This person will be responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff
• Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes

Skills & Qualifications

• Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in function or business area
• An advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered
• Knows and effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relative to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting and cost control, and progressive techniques in area of specialization
• Generally understands basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action
• Typically requires BS/BA and 3-5 years’ experience in related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience
• Professional certification required in some areas
