CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc. seeks a Gate Clerk in Cedar Rapids, IA to manage yard access, verify credentials, and direct visitors and drivers.

The role supports security and efficient yard operations on a 5AM–5PM alternating schedule. Starting pay is $18.00/hour with bi-weekly pay and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement match, PTO and holidays.

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Yard entrance control: monitor the gate and allow drivers access as needed.
• Credential and load verification: check credentials and Bills of Lading (BOLs)/load information before entry, ensuring security.
• Issuance of passes: issue passes per supervisor instructions while maintaining safety protocols.
• Direct visitors and drivers: guide them to the correct areas of the yard and grounds.
• Outgoing traffic inspection: inspect leaving vehicles to prevent unauthorized removal of loads or trailers.
• Track traffic movement: keep a count of trucks and carriers entering and leaving the yard for records.
• Communication monitoring: listen to company phones and radios to maintain smooth traffic flow.
• Accountability & reliability: maintain regular attendance and support team needs.

The Opportunity

The Gate Clerk manages traffic at the yard entrance, ensuring only authorized individuals and vehicles are allowed access. This role also involves verifying credentials, inspecting outgoing traffic, directing visitors, and maintaining communication to ensure smooth operations across the yard.

How You'll Work

Schedule: 5AM - 5 PM alternating schedule. Hours at the beginning for training and onboarding may vary.

Compensation: $18.00/hour Starting Wages (Pay Bi-Weekly) *A final amount is dependent on factors including prior relevant experience, knowledge, and location. Typically, selected candidates are hired at a rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Yard Entrance Control - Monitor the yard entrance gate to manage traffic entering and leaving the property, opening the gate to allow drivers access as needed
• Credential and Load Verification - Check credentials and Bills of Lading (BOLs)/load information before allowing anyone to enter the yard, ensuring proper security
• Issuance of Passes - Issue passes at your discretion or based on instructions from supervisors, maintaining safety and security protocols
• Direct Visitors and Drivers - Guide visitors and drivers to the correct areas of the yard and grounds
• Outgoing Traffic Inspection - Inspect outgoing vehicles to prevent the unauthorized removal of company loads, trailers, or products
• Track Traffic Movement - Keep track of the number of trucks and other carriers entering and leaving the yard for accurate record-keeping
• Communication Monitoring - Monitor company phones and 2-way radios to ensure smooth traffic flow across the yard
• Accountability & Reliability - Maintain regular and reliable attendance while performing other duties as assigned to support team and business needs
