Responsibilities

• Provide medical care to patients with gastrointestinal cancers within the GI oncology program.
• Collaborate with gastroenterology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology and other specialists as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in a hub-and-spoke telehealth model to support rural sites within the MaineHealth system.
• Engage in clinical and translational research associated with an academically affiliated cancer program.

MaineHealth Cancer Care is seeking a Gastrointestinal Oncologist to join the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, based at the MaineHealth Scarborough Cancer Center and Maine Medical Center in Portland. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in gastrointestinal medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology and additional specialists, joining the multidisciplinary GI oncology program at a newly renovated Cancer Center in Scarborough, Maine. In addition to providing care to local patients, the candidate will participate in an innovative “hub and spoke” model, partnering via telehealth with advance practice oncology providers at more rural sites in the MaineHealth system.

Prior experience in gastrointestinal oncology within an academic health system is preferred, although strong candidates in the early stages of their careers will be considered. MaineHealth is a nationally recognized integrated care system that delivers highly coordinated, state-of-the-art, cancer and hematology care across a network that cares for over 8000 new cancer patients each year. The cancer and hematology programs have grown significantly over the past three years and exceed 80% market share across the state of Maine. The programs are academically affiliated with the Tufts University School of Medicine and include a fellowship training program as well as robust clinical and translational research efforts, with membership in both NCORP and the NCI cooperative groups.

The MaineHealth Cancer Center and Maine Medical Center are based in Portland, Maine; one of the nation’s top small port cities. The annual base salary for this position is $430,000.
