The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Gastrointestinal/Hepatic Pathologist to join its nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Charleston, SC. The role involves service across GI, hepatic, and pancreatic pathology, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and contributing to translational research within a leading cancer center.

Academic track, relocation assistance, and robust retirement and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with pathology specialty training and ABPath certification in AP or AP/CP.
• Subspecialty training/experience in gastrointestinal pathology is preferred.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.

Responsabilités

• Participate in busy GI, hepatic, and pancreatic pathology service at MUSC Digestive Disease Center.
• Work with biopsy and resection specimens and general surgical pathology.
• Cover general frozen sections and share pathology call; teach trainees and fellows.

Join a team that’s Changing What’s Possible – The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine seeks a Gastrointestinal/ Hepatic Pathologist. MUSC is a tertiary care hospital with active transplantation, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics services, as well as an apheresis service. Our Department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.

We are seeking

• Academically oriented candidate
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
• Subspecialty training and/or experience in gastrointestinal pathology
• Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina

Our opportunity

• Participates in very busy, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic pathology service at the MUSC Digestive Disease Center
• Works with both biopsy and resection specimens in addition to general surgical pathology
• Covers general frozen section services
• Shares general surgical pathology call
• Fosters collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers.
• Instructs medical students, participates in the training of pathology residents and gastroenterology fellows, and actively participates in the academic mission of the NCI-designed Hollings Cancer Center programs.
• The relative percent effort for research, teaching, administrative duties, and patient care responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant's experience and career goals.

MUSC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

• Collaborative team composed of 55 faculty – with 2 in the Gastrointestinal & Hepatic Pathology Section
• High quality training programs with 21 residents and 10-12 fellows who have had a 100% board passage rate for the past 7 years
• CAPS, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations
• We examine 6,700 Gastrointestinal surgical pathology accessions and 1000 Liver surgical pathology accessions per year.
• The Gastrointestinal pathology section offers a non-ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in gastrointestinal/ surgical pathology. The Department also offers a non-ACGME-accredited general surgical pathology fellowship training program.
