Job summary

The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville is actively recruiting a full-time General Gastroenterology Hospitalist to join a busy practice of 12 GI physicians. This inpatient role focuses on consults and procedures in a 7 on/7 off schedule, with strong GI APP support.

EUS/ERCP are welcomed but not required; coverage is provided by three advanced endoscopy colleagues. Teaching opportunities with students and residents may be available as the GI program grows.

Qualifications

• Board-eligible or board-certified in Gastroenterology
• Experience with inpatient GI consults and procedures preferred
• Willingness to collaborate with APPs and be part of a GI team
• Interest in teaching medical students/residents is a plus

Responsibilities

• Manage inpatient gastroenterology consults and procedures
• Collaborate with a team of 12 GI physicians and 3 GI APPs
• Provide patient care in a 7 on/7 off hospital-based schedule
• Participate in teaching activities as opportunities arise

Job description

The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, a 710-bed facility and level I trauma center, is actively recruiting a full-time General Gastroenterology Hospitalist to join a busy practice of 12 Gastroenterologists in a collegial atmosphere.

• 7 days on/7 days off hospital based inpatient gastroenterology role with inpatient consults and procedures only.
• Accompanied by a second gastroenterologist and 3 GI APPs rounding from Monday through Friday.
• 1 GI APP rounding each weekend (1/2 day Saturday and Sunday).
• Average 10-15 new consults and 4-8 procedures per day.
• EUS/ERCP welcomed but not required. There will be EUS and ERCP coverage provided by three advanced endoscopy colleagues.
• Anesthesia supported endoscopy unit with a dedicated inpatient endoscopy suite. Interested candidates should be BE/BC.
• If desired, there are opportunities for teaching medical students, family medicine, and internal medicine residents with a goal of bringing a GI fellowship to the hospital in the near future.
