Job summary

Peoples Gas System is seeking a Utility Technician in St. Petersburg to operate, service, and locate natural gas pipelines and metering equipment. The role involves construction/maintenance of gas distribution systems and ensuring employee and customer safety.

Successful candidates will perform meter reads, regulate installations, and respond to leaks or emergencies. The position requires 8-hour shifts, physical outdoor labor, and residency within 55 minutes of the St Pete office.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; CDL may be required.
• 1–2 years of relevant gas operations experience or 3–4 years of gas operations experience.
• Must perform functions of PGS Apprentice Utility Technician.
• Basic map reading and computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Reads meters and turns gas service on/off for residential/commercial customers.
• Investigates high-bill or unusual consumption readings.
• Fabricates and joins gas piping/fittings and maintains meters/regulators.
• Performs locating of underground gas systems and CP/corrosion surveys.
• Responds to leaks and emergencies; may lead apprentices.
