Job summary

GenSystems Power Solutions in Houston, TX seeks a Gas Turbine Services Engineer to support the repair and service lifecycle of aeroderivative gas turbines, including teardown, inspection, repair development, assembly, testing, and final release.

You will work with service, manufacturing, quality, operations, supply chain, and customers to ensure repairs meet OEM requirements, industry standards, and safety practices; a hands-on role in a repair shop.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional engineering experience with aeroderivative gas turbine engines.
  • Experience working in an MRO, repair, overhaul, manufacturing, or field service engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gas turbine fundamentals, turbomachinery, thermodynamics, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, specifications, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
  • Experience supporting equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, assembly, testing, or overhaul.
  • Experience with failure analysis, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare engineering reports, work instructions, repair documentation, and technical recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop optimized work scopes for gas turbine engines removed from service, balancing technical requirements, reliability, cost, turnaround time, and customer requirements.
  • Lead the engineering process from engine receipt and teardown through inspection, repair, assembly, testing, and final release.
  • Develop detailed work instructions, repair shop routers, inspection packages, engineering specifications, and investigation plans for gas turbine repair activities.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to shop personnel during engine disassembly, inspection, repair, assembly, and testing.
  • Develop solutions with cross-functional teams to address technical issues regarding aero-derivative gas turbines.
  • Design, modify, and validate tooling, fixtures, and equipment required to support gas turbine inspection, repair, assembly, and testing.
  • Analyze gas turbine performance and test data to identify abnormal operating conditions, degradation, and potential failure mechanisms.
  • Lead engine and component failure investigations and root cause analysis (RCA), including identification of failure mechanisms, contributing factors, and corrective actions.
  • Analyze inspection & test data and create technical reports for internal and external customers.

Job Description

The Gas Turbine Services Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support throughout the complete gas turbine repair and service lifecycle, including engine teardown, inspection, failure investigation, repair development, assembly, testing, and final release. This position applies strong knowledge of aeroderivative gas turbine design, turbomachinery, repair processes, and failure analysis to develop technically sound, cost-effective solutions for complex engine issues.

The engineer will work closely with Service, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and customers to ensure gas turbine repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable OEM requirements, engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards.

This is a hands-on engineering position requiring regular interaction with gas turbine engines, components, technicians, inspectors, and test equipment within a repair shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of professional engineering experience with aeroderivative gas turbine engines, particularly GE LM2500, GE LM6000, Siemens SGT-A05, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience working in an MRO, repair, overhaul, manufacturing, or field service engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gas turbine fundamentals, turbomachinery, thermodynamics, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, specifications, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
  • Experience supporting equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, assembly, testing, or overhaul.
  • Experience with failure analysis, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze inspection, dimensional, operational, and/or test data and develop technically sound recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare engineering reports, work instructions, repair documentation, and technical recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, quality, manufacturing, technicians, service personnel, and customers.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on shop environment and provide technical support during disassembly, inspection, repair, assembly, and testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business and technical requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing gas turbine workscopes, repair schemes, inspection packages, shop routers, and detailed work instructions.
  • Experience developing engineering dispositions for non-conforming or damaged components.
  • Strong knowledge of gas turbine components including compressors, combustors, turbine sections, bearings, seals, shafts, and accessory systems.
  • Experience evaluating NDT results, dimensional inspection data, borescope findings, component condition, and engine test data.
  • Experience with gas turbine performance analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Experience leading engine/component failure investigations and determining failure mechanisms and contributing factors.
  • Familiarity with 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, or similar RCA methodologies.
  • Experience designing, modifying, or validating tooling, fixtures, or specialized repair equipment.
  • Experience with CAD software and mechanical design.
  • Experience working directly with OEM technical data, service bulletins, repair manuals, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience providing technical support to field service teams and/or customers.
  • Experience with engine test-cell operations, test procedures, and interpretation of test results.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, repair quality, cost, and turnaround time.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer sites, field locations, suppliers, or repair facilities.

The Gas Turbine Service Engineer is expected to perform all duties with a strong commitment to safety, ensuring the well-being of themselves, coworkers, customers, and third parties at all times.

The role requires flexibility to work extended hours, including days, and as needed, nights, weekends, and holidays to support project and service requirements.

This position involves some travel to customer sites, and project locations, which may include remote or challenging environments. Work conditions may vary and include indoor and outdoor settings, exposure to varying weather conditions, and active industrial or construction sites. The Gas Turbine Service Engineer must consistently follow all safety protocols and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
