Job summary

NRG Energy in Houston is seeking a Gas Turbine Engineer/Specialist to support our fleet with on-site inspections, condition assessments, and run/repair/replacement recommendations. You will coordinate with repair shops and suppliers, review service bulletins, and help develop long-range turbine plans while upholding safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years of aero gas turbine maintenance/operations/troubleshooting experience.
  • 10 years of aero gas turbine maintenance/repair/operations experience as an alternative.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Fundamental knowledge of vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of materials/metallurgy for gas turbines and components.
  • Fundamental knowledge of control systems for gas turbines.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GE LM6000 gas turbines.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and emphasizes safety and environmental programs.
  • Evaluates component condition and repair options.
  • Performs site inspections and condition assessments to support maintenance planning and risk assessments.
  • Leads teams focusing on specific problem areas for generating units.
  • Communicates with customers regarding condition of equipment and repair work scope.
  • Inspects completed work or work in progress for quality.
  • Performs field inspections and takes field measurements.
  • Coordinates activities with Vendors/Contractors and other divisions.
  • Identifies and resolves problems proactively.
  • Performs root cause analysis of system and equipment problems.
  • Develops quality work plans when required.
  • Performs engineering calculations in area of responsibility.
  • Assists in outage planning and economic evaluation of turbine projects.
  • May manage projects within area of expertise.
  • Ensures company resources are used cost-effectively.
  • Prepares written reports in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Performs technical duties in area of responsibility.
  • Develops and maintains technical specs for replacement parts and repairs.
  • Identifies new or existing repair technology to implement.
  • Tracks service bulletins for gas turbines/generators and assesses compliance.
  • Qualifies vendors and suppliers for parts and services.
  • Evaluates non-OEM parts, services, and upgrades.
  • Collects and reviews operating data to identify mechanical and performance issues.
