Job summary

Edwards Equipment Co. Inc. in Terre Haute, IN, seeks a skilled technician to perform and assist with mechanical repair and maintenance of gasoline-powered equipment.

You will diagnose engines, fuel systems, ignition, electrical, and drive components, and service generators, mowers, and related equipment. Requires 3+ years of practical experience or vocational training; strong troubleshooting, communication, and basic computer skills for diagnostic tools; valid driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• Three years of practical gasoline/small engine experience or completion of a vocational/technical program.
• Experience servicing mowers, generators, and related gasoline-powered equipment preferred.

Job description

Responsibilities:

• Perform or assist with a variety of mechanical repair and maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose and repair assigned gasoline-powered equipment, components, and systems with minimal supervision.
• Service and repair gasoline engines, fuel systems, carburetors, fuel injection systems, ignition systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, drive systems, belts, pulleys, brakes, and related components.
• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and equipment servicing.
• OEM and manufacturer-specific training may be provided.
• Maintain a working knowledge of mowers, zero-turn mowers, utility equipment, handheld equipment, generators, pressure washers, and other gasoline-powered equipment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and manufacturer-approved service equipment to complete repairs.
• Assist with major component repairs and replacements as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair common mechanical, electrical, and fuel-related issues independently.
• Access and utilize manufacturer service information, troubleshooting resources, and diagnostic equipment including laptops, multimeters, compression testers, tachometers, and other diagnostic tools.
• Participate in manufacturer training, dealership training, safety meetings, and team meetings.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and properly maintain company-owned tools and equipment.
• Notify the Service Manager or supervisor when additional repairs, parts, or service work are required.
• Follow all company safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and request assistance when necessary.
• Properly document repairs, findings, labor performed, and additional service recommendations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of three years of practical gasoline engine, small engine, outdoor power equipment, or related mechanical experience, or completion of an accredited vocational or technical training program.
• Experience servicing mowers, zero-turn mowers, utility equipment, generators, or similar gasoline-powered equipment preferred.
• Must possess the necessary hand tools required to perform the position.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic diagnostic and manufacturer service systems.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Working Conditions:

The work environment described below represents typical conditions encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. Employees may work near moving equipment and machinery and may be exposed to gasoline, exhaust fumes, solvents, grease, oil, dust, noise, and other shop-related materials. Work may occasionally be performed outdoors or in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. These include walking, standing, climbing, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, and working in or around equipment.

Employees will frequently lift and carry parts, tools, and equipment. While performing job duties, employees must be able to communicate clearly, listen effectively, and safely operate tools and equipment. Manual dexterity and the ability to work with small components and hand tools are required.

The use of company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with all company safety procedures are mandatory.

Ability to regularly lift between 15 and 75 lbs.
