Job summary

Gfoat is seeking a skilled field technician to safely perform a wide spectrum of moderately difficult pipeline assignments in the Texas area. You will apply technical evaluation, innovation, and judgment while protecting the environment, property, and public safety. You are accountable for quantity, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities include assisting the Superintendent with accurate reports, communicating with city entities and contractors, and conducting O.Q. field assessments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Operator Qualification Tier 4 Certification within 12 months, Poly-Fusion Certification within 6 months, or ability to obtain certification.

  • Perform periodic inspections.
  • Investigate low/high consumption and customer complaints.
  • Respond to pipeline system emergencies and evaluate/repair.

Manages job sites, protecting the environment, property, and public. Is accountable for quantity, quality, and productivity.

  • Assist Superintendent to ensure work reports are accurate and secured;
  • Communicates proficiently with other city entities and contractors;
  • Manages job activities and performs O.Q. field assessments.
  • Troubleshoot, test, install, and repair pipeline system materials and equipment;
  • Operates vehicle, heavy equipment, pipeline system equipment, and other essential equipment;
  • Performs periodic inspections;
  • Knowledge of rectifier operation;
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection maintenance;
  • Investigates low/high consumption and customer complaints.
  • Responds to pipeline system emergencies. Will evaluate, secure, repair, and investigate emergencies;
  • Interprets and enforces department specifications, city codes, state and federal regulations.
  • Completes maintenance records, service reports, and other required documents on paper and PC; and
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Operator Qualification Tier 4 Certification within 12 months, Poly-Fusion Certification from an accredited institution, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months. A valid Texas Driver License in good standing.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. People in this position may be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays; in all weather conditions; under hazardous conditions; on congested roadways, obstructed roads, high structures; around operating equipment; with chemicals; and with the physical ability and stamina to perform strenuous physical work. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, body fluids, chemicals, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions and intense noises. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.

Work Hours
  • Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, work days and hours may vary.
  • May work nights and weekends as required.
