Descrição da oferta de emprego

Help protect homes, businesses and communities by raising gas safety standards across the region.

Gas Safe Register, in partnership with Capita, is recruiting a safety-focused, gas-qualified professional to join our field services team across Leeds and surrounding areas.

This is a field-based role for someone who enjoys working independently, managing their own portfolio and using their technical gas expertise to support safer standards across registered businesses.

You will inspect, report and provide clear feedback on gas safety standards, ensuring inspections are completed accurately, professionally and in line with agreed service levels.

Job title

Gas Inspector (Leeds and surrounding area)

Job Description

Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. By law, gas businesses and engineers must be registered to carry out gas work legally. The register exists to help protect the public from unsafe gas work by maintaining the official list of competent gas businesses and engineers, supporting inspections, investigating unsafe work and raising gas safety awareness.

Capita delivers the Gas Safe Register service under a concession arrangement with the Health and Safety Executive and related authorities. Together, the service plays an important role in maintaining gas safety standards and helping consumers have confidence that gas work is carried out safely and legally.

Why Join Us?
  • Use your gas industry experience in a role focused on quality, safety and public protection.
  • Work independently in the community, managing an allocated portfolio of registered businesses.
  • Move into a role that offers variety beyond routine installation work.
  • Have professional conversations with engineers, businesses and consumers about safety standards.
  • Join a service with a clear purpose: helping to improve gas safety nationwide.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Carry out and complete inspections in line with our risk model and contractual obligations with our client, the HSE.
  • Complete inspections against Gas Industry Statutory and Normative documents and internal operating procedures.
  • Liaise with registered businesses to ensure any identified defects are understood, addressed to the required standard and completed within timescale.
  • Complete inspection reports within the required Service Level Agreement and to the expected standard.
  • Take appropriate action when unsafe or illegal gas work is identified.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with registered businesses and gas consumers.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and industry awareness through ongoing CPD.
What We’re Looking For

This role would suit an experienced gas professional who is confident working independently, comfortable making evidence-based decisions and able to manage professional but sometimes challenging conversations. You will need to be organised, resilient and committed to maintaining high technical and safety standards.

Essential Requirements
  • Minimum ACS certificates of competence: CCN1, CENWAT1, CKR1 and HTR1.
  • Experience working on a variety of gas appliances and/or quality controlling gas work.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, Building Regulations, related codes and normative documents.
  • Ability to risk assess environments and make appropriate safety decisions.
  • Ability to use tools and undertake appropriate tests and checks during inspections.
  • Appreciation of issues affecting gas, plumbing, electrical and H&V installation businesses.
Desirable Experience
  • Additional ACS certificates in LPG, Non-Domestic & Catering, LAU1 and DAH1.
  • Relevant auditor qualification such as D32/A1 or equivalent.
What’s in It for You?
  • £48,000 salary plus company car.
  • 23 days’ holiday, rising to 27 days, with the opportunity to buy extra leave.
  • A paid volunteering day to support a charity partner or cause of your choice.
  • Company-matched pension and life assurance.
  • Cycle2Work scheme.
  • 15 weeks’ fully paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave.
  • Two weeks’ paternity pay.
  • Voluntary lifestyle benefits covering retail, socialising, health and wellbeing, travel and technology.
  • Access to Employee Network Groups supporting inclusion, connection and learning.
  • Career development opportunities across Capita, with support to build skills and progress your career.
What to Expect in the Role

This is a field-based role that requires travel, strong personal organisation and the ability to manage your own workload. You will need to complete reports accurately and within agreed service levels. At times, you may need to address unsafe, illegal or non-compliant work, so confidence, professionalism and resilience are essential.
