Job summary

SouthStar Energy Services, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas, seeks an experienced accountant to manage monthly gas cost accounting, storage, and settlements. You will oversee journal entries, cost close processes, and ensure Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance across markets.

The role requires deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and hedge accounting, with leadership responsibilities across Physical Operations, Finance, Audit, and Risk Management. Strong analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Typically ten or more years of professional accounting experience.
• Experience with budgeting, cost accounting, financial analysis.
• Knowledge of Sarbanes‑Oxley internal controls and compliance.
• Experience with derivative instruments and hedge accounting.

Responsibilities

• Supervise monthly natural gas cost accounting and true-ups for assigned markets.
• Oversee journal entries and monthly close for natural gas costs.
• Reconcile settlements with counterparty invoices and ensure timely payments.
• Support financial reporting, regulatory filings, and disclosures.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with Physical Operations, Finance, and Risk Management.
