Job summary

GLOBAL GAMING SOLUTIONS LLC seeks a seasonal track attendant to help identify horses at the racetrack entrance for workouts and record distances breezing for clockers. You will verify official workouts, produce workout cards, and relay accurate horse and trainer information by radio to clockers.

The role requires completion of a high school diploma or GED, ROAP certification, and 1-3 years of racetrack experience.

Qualifications

  • ROAP Course Certification.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • 1-3 years of experience with horses or racetrack, or equivalent.
  • Must pass Title 31 Training.

Responsibilities

  • Identify horses at the racetrack entrance for workouts.
  • Record horse names and distances breezing; report to clockers.
  • Verify official workouts and disseminate data to industry databases.
  • Prepare workout cards with accurate spellings and trainer names.
  • Communicate horse and trainer details to clockers by radio.
  • Serve as backup timer for workouts; operate clocking systems as needed.
  • Maintain race changes, post times, and jockey alterations.
  • Manage safety issues in the horse area; perform other duties as assigned.

General Definition

The gap attendant ensures the proper identification of horses prior to entering track for official workouts. In this position, the individual will record the names, the distance of the horses breezing and report this information to the clockers. The purpose of this role is to monitor morning trackwork and during live racing to ensure a safe environment for riders, trainers, and staff during trackwork as well as races to ensure adherence to Track Regulations at all time.

Essential Job Functions
  • Individual will be positioned at the main entrance to racetrack for workouts.
  • Proper identification of horses through variety of sources: communication with trainers/exercise riders/grooms; physical observation; verification of lip tattoo.
  • Verification of distance(s) for official workouts.
  • Cross reference with official clocker to verify official workouts prior to disseminating to industry databases.
  • Produce workout card to responsible party and ensure property spelling and eligible writing of trainers and horse’s name.
  • Sending by radio signal the proper horses name and trainer's name to the clockers.
  • Individual may act as backup or secondary timer for workouts.
  • Position may require manual operation of clocking systems.
  • Maintain scratches, race changes, post times and jockey alterations.
  • Handle any situation involving persons regarding safety issues in the horse area.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of high school diploma or GED
  • ROAP Course Certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of horse and race safety
  • Ability to use communication radios
  • Working knowledge of track clocking procedures
  • Emergency procedures for horse’s, staff and participants
  • Ability to properly place horse and staff positions on the track
  • Be knowledgeable of procedures concerning safety and protocols on the racetrack and surrounding areas.
  • Operational knowledge of morning track works and racing schedules
  • Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Ability to enter a smoke-filled environment as needed
Training and Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience; prior working experience with horses and/or a racetrack; or equivalent combination of experience.
  • Must be able to pass Title 31 Training
Licenses/Certifications/Other
  • Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency if applicable to perform the essential job functions
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug test with a negative result
