Job summary

Avicena in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Device Engineer to drive the design, fabrication, and electro-optical characterization of GaN microLED devices for our LightBundle platform. You will translate device physics into manufacturable emitters and work across epitaxy, processing, and on-wafer test.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize efficiency, speed, and array uniformity, perform L-I-V, spectral and high-speed measurements, and contribute to IP and documentation while

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Photonics, or related field (or BS with equivalent industry experience).
• Hands-on experience in semiconductor optoelectronic or LED/laser device engineering (5–8+ years).
• Strong grasp of device physics, carrier transport, recombination, and optical emission.
• Proven electro-optical device characterization and data analysis skills (L-I-V, spectral, high-speed).
• Process fluency in lithography, etch, deposition, metallization and their impact on devices.
• Proficient with data analysis and scripting (Python, MATLAB) and TCAD or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Device design & modeling: Develop GaN microLED structures and optimize with TCAD and analytical models.
• Fabrication & integration: Define process flows and own DOE from wafer to characterization.
• Electro-optical characterization: Perform L-I-V, spectral, modulation-bandwidth, and reliability tests.
• Performance improvement: Diagnose loss mechanisms and drive design/process changes for higher efficiency.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Align device performance with link-level and product requirements.
• Documentation: Create specifications, test plans, and technical reports; contribute to IP.
