Job summary

The City of Lenexa's Parks and Recreation Department is hiring a Recreation Sports Official to manage gameplay, enforce rules, and help provide a safe, positive experience for all participants in baseball, softball, flag football and basketball.

Responsibilities include overseeing game flow, communicating with coaches and participants, inspecting playing areas for safety, and applying rules consistently. Work occurs mainly evenings and weekends; pay is $18.75 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Experience participating in sports or previous sports officiating experience.
• Understanding of the rules of basketball, flag football, baseball, and other recreational sports.
• Ability to communicate effectively with participants and maintain positive relationships with the public.
• Ability to officiate multiple sporting events.
• First Aid/AED certification required within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manage game time and gameplay in a professional manner.
• Apply and enforce all rules consistently for each sporting event.
• Inspect playing surfaces to ensure participant safety.
• Clarify rules and expectations to coaches before each game.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, coaches, and participants.
• Assist with additional recreational sports programs.
