HRDC Dist IX, Inc. is seeking a part-time para-transit bus driver to provide transportation for seniors and individuals with a disability in Southwest Montana. The role is 15–20 hours per week with mostly day shifts and some evenings/weekends.

Job Opening Date: September 3, 2026

Job Status: This position is part-time, 15-20 hours per week.

Job Schedule: Mostly day shifts. Some evening and weekend availability a plus.

General Summary:

Drives para-transit bus, which provides transportation for seniors and individuals with a disability.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Operates vehicles in a safe and prudent manner (75%)

  • Picks up and delivers riders as per dispatcher instruction;
  • Assists riders when necessary, such as getting onto and off of the bus;
  • Ensures all passengers are properly secured with appropriate restraints, including mobility devices (wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, etc.);
  • Reports any accident or incident, no matter how minor, to the Transportation Program Manager;
  • Maintains order and control on the bus at all times;
  • Proficiently operates wheel chair lifts, two-way radios and other special equipment, as well as a variety of vehicles (e.g. vans or paratransit buses);

2. Completes daily inspection and maintenance of the bus (10%)

  • Pre-trip vehicle inspections prior to start of shift;
  • Sweeps, cleans and washes bus (inside and out) to maintain a professional level of appearance;
  • Ensures any deficiencies noted are reported to Dispatcher or Manager;
  • Monitors and reports preventative maintenance prior to it being due per schedule;
  • Fuels bus and checks oil, and other fluids as needed;
  • Checks tires, lights, wipers, and general bus condition;
  • Assesses potential problems and consults with supervisor before taking further action;

3. Performs various record keeping duties (10%)

  • Tallies riders;
  • Collects and tallies daily donations;
  • Maintains mileage log;

4. Organizational Participation (5%)

  • Attend all organizational team meetings;
  • Read the weekly news to stay informed;
  • Participate in trainings and wellness days when available;
  • Conduct respectful, professional, and effective conversations with customers and volunteers regarding behavioral expectations, program compliance, and HRDC property standards.
