Civic and Community Engagement Coordinator Internship

FUTURO Inc is a nonprofit in Middle Tennessee that supports civic engagement. The Civic and Community Engagement Coordinator Internship provides support as a liaison between FUTURO, TIRRC, and the community, delivering voter education, registration assistance and civic outreach. The internship is grant‑funded and runs from August 3, 2026 through November 13, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Project Coordinator and works closely with the Program Director
  • Assist with communicating with students, employers, and the FUTURO community
  • Be available for training in voter registration, civic engagement, and other areas needed to complete the project
  • Research college student engagement best practices and produce reports to inform strategy, marketing, and programming
  • Suggest more appropriate means of data collection for current and future students
  • Conduct research and develop tools and methods for collecting data such as surveys, opinion polls, interviews, or questionnaires
  • Assist with reporting and communicating with students, alumni, and the FUTURO community
  • Attend community partnership meetings, FUTURO events, and activities whenever possible and assist in the development of curriculum
  • Must be available to work on Leadership Day (Saturday, August 8 or 15), FUTURO Fall Leadership Conference (Saturday, October 3), Last Day to Register to vote (Sunday, October 4), and Election Day (Tuesday, November 3)
  • Create graphic representations of data and translate research into easily readable content and reports for stakeholders
  • Organize and coordinate the Civic Engagement/Voter Information workshop in the first week of September 2026 across campuses
  • Facilitate training for poll‑worker responsibilities to give students greater involvement
  • Plan and execute all in‑person events, gathering and distributing materials, outreach, and follow‑up, with advance notification
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Growth mindset and interest in civic and community engagement, research, higher education, data analytics, nonprofit operations, communications, and equity and diversity issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team, and maintain relationships with community partners
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working independently
  • Excellent time‑management skills
  • Strong written, verbal, listening, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strength in analysis, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and solid research methodology knowledge
  • Strong computer proficiency in Google Suite (Drive, Calendar, Sheets, Documents), Grammarly, and Canva
General Requirements
  • Baseline knowledge about FUTURO and perspective on improving methods and programming for the community – background in higher education preferred
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree, college, trade school, or graduate program in a related field
  • Open to all majors, with emphasis on Political Science, Education, Psychology, Data Analytics, Marketing, Business Administration, Mathematics, Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Event Planning, Latin American Studies, Sociology, and Operations Management
  • Hybrid work schedule: 4 hours per week; pay at $18/hr, eligible for 1099 or W‑2; must be available to work in person for voter registration events
  • Flexible schedule with regularly scheduled meetings to be determined according to school/work schedule before the start date
