Job Description

Reports to: 21 st Grant Program Director, with input from Site Coordinator

Employment Status: As assigned on board-approved contract

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education
  • Valid State of Ohio teaching license
  • Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
  • Alternative to above qualifications as 21 st Century Program Director, Superintendent/Governing Board find appropriate
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of the 21 st Century Substitute Teacher is to establish a before/after school classroom atmosphere that promotes a positive learning environment and to guide and instruct children using developmentally appropriate practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Obtain student report cards and analyze grades for intervention
  • Keep in contact with 21 st Century Program Director and Site Coordinator; i.e. communicating program concerns/needs
  • Provide guidance to students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
  • Develop, implement and maintain enrichment centers
  • Communicate regularly with Director, Site Coordinator, classroom teachers, parents and students regarding student homework assignments and progress
  • Observe the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Effectively manage the homework enrichment area and individual student behavior/ enforce reasonable rules and procedures in a fair manner to maintain a safe learning environment, including but not limited to a student incentive program
  • Observe ethics of the teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Support all 21 st Century Staff in effectively executing the requirements of the 21 st Century Grant
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student records, testing scores, etc.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Support gas voucher and fee programs at the site
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Attend meetings, trainings and in‑services as required
  • Be responsible for monitoring and updating personal SACC file and for providing the necessary documents for ESC file
  • Effectively manage the homework enrichment process
  • If job sharing, communicate regularly with job‑share partner
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator and Program Director
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  • Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
EQUIPMENT OPERATED

Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

The 21 st Century Substitute Teacher will be evaluated by the Site Coordinator or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The employee will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self‑evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
