Position Title: Furnace Operator Wage: $18.00/hour Shift: 3rd Hours: 11:00pm-7:00am QPS Employment Group is hiring a Furnace Operator for a company in Elkhorn, WI. This is a potential to hire role.

Position Summary The Furnace Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring heat-treating furnaces and related equipment to process metal components according to customer specifications and quality standards. This role ensures proper furnace settings, material handling, loading and unloading of parts, adherence to safety procedures, and maintenance of production records. The Furnace Operator plays a critical role in producing defect-free products while maintaining efficient operations and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heat-treating furnaces and related thermal processing equipment according to work instructions, specifications, and production schedules.
  • Load and unload customer parts, raw materials, baskets, racks, and fixtures safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and control furnace temperatures, cycle times, carbon potential, gas flow rates, and other processing parameters to ensure compliance with heat-treatment requirements.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, production orders, process specifications, blueprints, and quality documentation.
  • Verify materials and process requirements before, during, and after heat treatment operations.
  • Transport materials and finished products using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or other material-handling equipment as authorized.
  • Complete production records, quality documentation, inspection reports, and process paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Inspect loads throughout the processing cycle to ensure product quality and prevent defects.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, equipment checks, and housekeeping activities to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Identify and troubleshoot furnace, loading, or process issues and communicate concerns to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Assist with training new operators and team members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Follow all OSHA, company safety policies, quality standards, and operational procedures.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Heat treatment and furnace operation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, metal properties, and heat-treating processes.
  • Ability to understand and follow written work instructions and process documentation.
  • Experience with industrial manufacturing, production, or metal processing environments.
  • Strong understanding of quality control procedures and defect prevention.
  • Forklift operation experience or certification preferred.
  • Material handling and production workflow experience.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Performance Expectations
  • Produce high-quality parts with zero avoidable defects.
  • Maintain accurate processing records and production documentation.
  • Ensure furnace settings, temperatures, flow rates, cycle times, and carbon levels meet process specifications.
  • Prevent load jams, equipment damage, and processing errors.
  • Protect customer materials and maintain product integrity throughout the heat-treatment process.
  • Follow all safety standards and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Maximize productivity while maintaining quality and operational efficiency.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, twist, and lift throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, machinery, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment when required.
