Job summary

Puyallup Tribe of Indians is seeking a Lead Maintenance Groundskeeper to supervise the Funeral Dept facilities and maintenance staff. The role involves directing daily tasks, coordinating inspections, and ensuring safety and efficiency across buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and daily direction to maintenance staff. Assists Director with interviews and training; assigns work and ensures timely completion.
  • Coordinate inspections for fire and electrical codes, elevators, boilers, and equipment; report results and coordinate repairs.
  • Manage maintenance inventory, equipment check-out, and logbooks; monitor asset lifecycle and safety compliance.
  • Perform custodial duties for Funeral Dept. facilities, cleaning restrooms, trash/recycling, and setup for services.
  • Maintain keys log, order supplies within budget, and support department vehicle upkeep and after-hours responses.

Job Title: Lead Maintenance Groundskeeper

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Funeral Director, and while performing regular maintenance/groundskeeper duties, assists with the daily direction, functions, and supervision of the maintenance staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and daily direction to maintenance staff. Assists Director with interviews. Provides job training to employees. Monitors and assigns staff work assignments and ensures timely completion of work. Addresses and resolves customer complaints or forwards to Director.
  • Coordinates and assists in inspections for fire and electrical codes, elevators, boilers, equipment, building/facilities damage of maintenance. Reports inspection results to Director. Coordinates and assigns necessary repairs or part replacements.
  • Assists with effective and efficient management of maintenance equipment. Completes and maintains inventory control records. Monitors equipment check-out and return.
  • Promotes maintenance staff safety.
  • Performs all custodial work at Funeral Dept. buildings including cleaning restrooms, collecting garbage and recycling vacuuming, dusting, mopping on a daily basis. Wash windows every three or four months. Set-up/remove tables and chairs, etc. after each service.
  • Performs general plumbing work. Notifies Director for assistance from outside vendors.
  • Performs work orders in building, including general maintenance, ac unit installation, installing ADA accommodations, etc.
  • Perform all maintenance work at buildings being used for Funeral Dept., both inside and outside including moving of office furniture, keep water coolers operational and set-up of office equipment. Outside work includes: trash-pick on properties, mowing, weeding, raking, snow preparations, etc.
  • Keep and maintain keys to Funeral Dept. buildings, including an updated key log.
  • Order and maintain maintenance supplies under budget regulations which will require the Director’s signature.
  • Provide regular up-keep and maintenance of department vehicles such as washing and detailing inside and out.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Position will assign work orders to staff and ensure that all projects are completed timely and accurately. May supervise maintenance staff if the Director is out.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); four plus years of facilities experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs .

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Licenses/Other

Must submit and be able to acceptably pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment.

Must have and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be insurable. The Driver’s License must not have any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an employee from operating a GSA vehicle.

Other Skills and Abilities

Requires intermediate knowledge of plumbing, construction, electrical configuration and ability to read and interpret blue prints. Time management and customer service skills also required. Knowledge of roofing and security systems preferred.

Must be available after hours to respond to building emergencies.
