Impact Funeral Partners in Terre Haute, IN, seeks a part-time Funeral Assistant | Transfer & Facility Maintenance Specialist. You will support funeral directors during services, ensure dignified transfers, and help maintain our facilities with professionalism and compassion.

This on-call role runs up to 20 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends. Compensation includes $15–$18 per hour and $100 per after-hours removal, with Indiana minimum wage compliance.

Qualifications

• Flexible availability, including evenings, overnight shifts, and weekends.
• Willingness and ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule for first calls, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Comfortable performing basic interior and exterior maintenance tasks.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in funeral service, EMS, CNA, maintenance/facilities, or a similar field is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to transfer calls promptly (within 30 minutes), including evenings, overnight, and weekends.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for first calls, ensuring coverage as scheduled (typically on call every other night and weekend).
• Transport decedents from hospitals, care facilities, residences, and other locations to the funeral home with dignity and care.
• Complete required documentation accurately at the time of removal.
• Operate and maintain the removal vehicle in accordance with IFP standards.
• Follow all safety, infection control, and OSHA guidelines.
• Assist funeral directors during viewings, funeral services, and graveside ceremonies.
• Prepare and set up chapels, visitation rooms, and reception spaces.
• Welcome and guide families and guests upon arrival.
• Maintain an organized, calm presence throughout services; handle guest books and directing attendees.
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities and vehicles.
• Support administrative tasks and documentation as needed.
• Perform routine interior upkeep and exterior upkeep of facilities, monitor condition, and report needs.
• Handle seasonal exterior tasks such as snow and ice removal, as needed by location and climate.
• Perform minor repairs and general handyman tasks as needed.

Role Overview

The Funeral Assistant | Transfer & Facility Maintenance Specialist is a part-time, on-call role that sits at the heart of our mission. You'll support funeral directors during services, ensure the dignified transfer of loved ones into our care, and help maintain our facilities inside and out, responsibilities that together reflect everything this work stands for. We anticipate this role will work up to 20 hours per week, and may vary from week to week based on needs.

Key Responsibilities

Transfer & Transport

• Respond to transfer calls promptly (within 30 minutes), including evenings, overnight, and weekends

Service Support

• Assist funeral directors during viewings, funeral services, and graveside ceremonies
• Prepare and set up chapels, visitation rooms, and reception spaces
• Welcome and guide families and guests upon arrival
• Maintain an organized, calm presence throughout services: handling guest books, directing attendees, and resolving small issues before they become disruptions
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities and vehicles
• Support administrative tasks and documentation as needed

Facility Maintenance

• Perform routine interior upkeep of chapels, visitation rooms, offices, and restrooms, including cleaning, tidying, and restocking supplies
• Monitor facility condition and report maintenance needs (HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and similar issues) to management
• Perform routine exterior upkeep, including light landscaping, entryway and walkway upkeep, and trash removal, to keep the grounds safe and welcoming
• Handle seasonal exterior tasks such as snow and ice removal, as needed by location and climate
• Perform minor repairs and general handyman tasks as needed, escalating larger issues to management or outside vendors

Compensation

This role is compensated at $15-18/hr, and on a piece rate basis at $100 per after hours removal. Indiana law requires that total piece rate earnings meet or exceed minimum wage for all hours worked. In any period where the effective hourly rate falls below the Indiana minimum wage, compensation will be adjusted accordingly.
