Job description

We are looking for a proactive, analytical, and people-focused Funding and Payments Manager to oversee our funding and payments operations and lead a combined team of approximately five people. With the Funding Team Lead and Payments Team Lead reporting directly to you, you will provide the guidance, coaching, and operational direction they need to lead their teams effectively. You will take responsibility for performance across both functions, ensuring funding is set up and requested accurately, payments are processed on time, and incoming funds are reconciled and allocated correctly. This is a hands-on management role with a strong focus on developing people, resolving complex issues, and improving processes. As YouLend grows, you will help build the team’s capabilities and ensure both functions can support increasing volumes while maintaining accuracy and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Development

  • Manage, coach, and develop the Funding Team Lead and Payments Team Lead, helping them strengthen their leadership skills and take ownership of daily team performance.
  • Set clear objectives and expectations across both functions, balancing productivity, accuracy, and service quality.
  • Hold regular one-to-ones and performance reviews with the Team Leads, providing practical feedback and development plans.
  • Support the Team Leads with coaching, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Assess staffing and training needs, support recruitment and onboarding, and build the team’s capacity as the business grows.
  • Create a supportive team environment where people communicate openly, take responsibility, and understand how their work contributes to YouLend’s goals.

Funding and Payments Oversight

  • Oversee the setup and requesting of funding, ensuring work is completed accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Oversee payment execution, reconciliation, and the allocation of incoming funds, ensuring deadlines and agreed cutoffs are met.
  • Guide the Team Leads in prioritizing workloads, managing coverage, and addressing backlogs across both functions.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex funding and payment queries, exceptions, rejected or returned payments, and service issues.
  • Work with relevant teams and partners to investigate issues, resolve discrepancies, and minimize disruption to merchants.
  • Ensure appropriate quality checks, operational controls, and documented procedures are followed consistently.

Performance and Process Improvement

  • Monitor KPIs across both functions, using data to identify trends, recurring errors, capacity pressures, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide senior management with clear reporting on performance, risks, incidents, and progress against improvement plans.
  • Lead process improvements and contribute to automation initiatives that reduce manual work and improve accuracy.
  • Work with cross-functional colleagues to improve the handover between funding and payments and resolve wider operational challenges.
  • Ensure the Team Leads communicate process and system changes clearly and provide the training needed to put them into practice.
  • Oversee incident follow-up, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
About You
  • At least three years of supervisory or management experience within payments, funding, financial services operations, or a related back‑office environment.
  • Experience coaching and developing people, with the ability to guide Team Leads and build their confidence and decision‑making skills.
  • A strong understanding of payment processing, reconciliation, fund allocation, and operational controls, alongside the ability to develop a detailed understanding of YouLend’s funding processes.
  • Working knowledge of anti‑money laundering procedures and their relevance to operational activities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret performance data and turn findings into practical improvements.
  • Sound judgment when managing escalations, competing priorities, and time‑sensitive decisions.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, partners, and senior stakeholders.
  • A hands‑on, adaptable approach and a consistent focus on accuracy, accountability, and team development.

Desirable

  • Experience managing Team Leads or supervisors.
  • Experience supporting operational growth, process automation, or system changes.
  • SQL skills and familiarity with Metabase or similar reporting tools.
