Job summary

Cambridge Associates, a leading global investment firm based in Boston, seeks a diligent Fund Accounting Analyst to oversee accounting, administration and reporting for Single Investor Funds, Single Manager Funds, and other commingled vehicles.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with fund administrators, auditors, and investor relations teams to ensure accurate, compliant fund operations, with emphasis on continuous learning and process improvement in a dynamic financial services environment.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or audit.
  • 3–7 years’ work experience in fund administration or fund accounting for private investment funds.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in hedge/private equity fund fee calculations (carry and waterfalls).
  • Excellent MS Excel and Word skills; VBA is a plus.
  • Interest in automation and process improvement; openness to AI tools.
  • Strong data mindset and attention to controls.

Responsibilities

  • Review and reconcile NAV, portfolio positions, capital calls, distributions, expenses, and cash balances.
  • Analyze fund allocation methodologies, fees, carried interest, and waterfall calculations for accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify discrepancies in NAV reports from third-party fund administrators.
  • Oversee processing of client capital transactions and ensure adherence to fund agreements.
  • Prepare and validate capital calls and distribution notices with timely communication.
  • Review LPAs and PPMs for compliance and accurate fund representation.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits with auditors and administrators.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for audits.
  • Review draft financial statements for GAAP/IFRS compliance.
  • Address auditor queries and support implementation of new standards.
  • Serve as primary contact for fund accounting inquiries and issues.
  • Liaise between fund administrators and clients for clear communication.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, tax, and operations teams.
  • Monitor vendor performance and service levels; ensure SLAs are met.
  • Foster continuous improvement across processes and controls.

Job Description Summary:

We are seeking a diligent Fund Accounting Analyst to join our team. This role involves overseeing the accounting, administration and reporting of Single Investor Funds (SIFs), Single Manager Funds (SMFs), and other commingled fund vehicles. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams and external service providers, such as fund administrators, custodians, and auditors, to ensure accurate and efficient fund operations.

Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review and reconcile Net Asset Value (NAV), portfolio positions, private investment capital call and distribution activity, fund expense accruals, and cash balances.
  • Review and analyze complex fund allocation methodologies and fee arrangements, including carried interest, management fees, and waterfall calculations, ensuring accuracy, compliance with fund governing documents, and proper accounting treatment.
  • Identify and rectify discrepancies in NAV accounting reports provided by third-party fund administrators.
  • Oversee and review the processing of client capital transactions, including capital calls, distributions, and transfers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with fund agreements.
  • Prepare and validate capital call and distribution notices, coordinating with fund administrators and investor relations teams to ensure timely and accurate communication to clients.
  • Review legal documents such as Limited Partnership Agreements (LPAs) and Private Placement Memorandums (PPMs) to ensure compliance and accurate fund representation.
  • Coordinate and support annual financial statement audits, acting as a key liaison between auditors, fund administrators, and internal teams.
  • Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for auditors.
  • Review draft financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS).
  • Address auditor queries and facilitate timely resolution of audit issues.
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards and policies as required.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for addressing inquiries related to fund accounting, NAV calculations, financial statements, and fee arrangements.
  • Actively liaise between fund administrators and clients, ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution of issues.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with legal, compliance, audit, tax, operations, and client service teams.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing client inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor the performance of fund administrators and other vendors, ensuring adherence to service level agreements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, proactively seeking opportunities to enhance processes, procedures, and overall department performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree or relevant professional experience; preferably in accounting, finance, or audit.
  • 3 – 7 years’ work experience in fund administration or fund accounting for private investment fund of funds, hedge and/or private equity funds.
  • A team-oriented ambitious individual with strong interpersonal, organizational, communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly growing fast-paced environment and manage multiple competing priorities within deadlines.
  • Experience in fee calculations for hedge funds and private equity funds, including carried interest (carry) and waterfall structures, is highly valued.
  • Excellent MS Excel and Word skills are required; expertise in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming is a significant plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in automation and process improvement, with the ability to identify opportunities to streamline recurring fund accounting workflows.
  • Comfort working with emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve accuracy, efficiency, and reporting quality.
  • Strong data mindset, with attention to controls, and data quality.

In addition to the listed salary range, this position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus and a comprehensive, competitive benefits package.
