Job summary

DeWinter Group is seeking a Functional Safety Consultant for automotive-grade semiconductor projects in the San Jose area. In this hands-on role, you will apply ISO 26262 and ASIL‑B requirements, perform critical safety analyses, and support the creation of certification documentation to advance silicon products through the automotive safety lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of directly relevant Functional Safety experience in a semiconductor or silicon development environment.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO 26262 and ASIL-B requirements.
• Hands-on experience with FMEDA, FMEA, and HARA analyses.
• Familiarity with AEC-Q100 automotive qualification and reliability requirements.
• Knowledge of ISO 21434 and automotive cybersecurity concepts.
• Experience supporting semiconductor products through Functional Safety certification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Functional Safety analyses and drive certification activities for automotive-grade semiconductors.
• Collaborate with silicon design and engineering teams to integrate Functional Safety across the lifecycle.
• Produce and maintain FS documentation to progress through certification stages.
• Apply FS requirements across the silicon development lifecycle and coordinate with certification bodies.

Functional Safety Consultant – Semiconductor / Silicon

Overview

Support the development and certification of automotive-grade semiconductor products in a high-impact Functional Safety consulting role. Working within a silicon development environment, you will help integrate Functional Safety throughout the product lifecycle and drive semiconductor designs toward ASIL-B certification.

This opportunity is well suited to a hands-on Functional Safety professional with direct semiconductor- or silicon-level experience. You will collaborate with silicon design and engineering teams, conduct critical safety analyses, and support the documentation required to advance automotive semiconductor products through certification. Experience limited exclusively to vehicle- or system-level Functional Safety does not meet the technical requirements for this role.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of directly relevant Functional Safety experience
• Demonstrated Functional Safety experience within a semiconductor or silicon development environment
• Strong knowledge of ISO 26262
• Experience applying ASIL requirements, specifically ASIL-B
• Hands-on experience performing or leading:
• FMEDA analysis
• FMEA analysis
• HARA analysis
• Understanding of AEC-Q100 and automotive semiconductor qualification and reliability requirements
• Knowledge of ISO 21434 and automotive cybersecurity concepts
• Experience supporting semiconductor products through Functional Safety certification
• Ability to apply Functional Safety requirements throughout the silicon development lifecycle

• Approximately 10+ years of Functional Safety experience
• Previous experience completing certification with TÜV or exida
• Extensive experience with automotive-grade semiconductor development
• Experience owning or leading Functional Safety activities through certification
• Experience driving Functional Safety requirements across the silicon development lifecycle

Preferred Education and Experience

A specific educational background has not been provided for this position. Candidates should have at least 5 years of directly relevant Functional Safety experience in a semiconductor or silicon development environment, with approximately 10+ years preferred.

Other Requirements

• Location: San Jose, CA preferred; remote work may be considered for the right candidate
• Engagement: Contract position with an expected duration of 6+ months
• Must have semiconductor- or silicon-level Functional Safety experience
