Job summary

Spade is seeking a Full Stack Engineer in NYC to own end-to-end product experiences, building React/TypeScript frontend and Python/Django backend. You’ll craft scalable APIs and data services for a high-volume enrichment platform, partnering to improve engineering practices and deliver customer value.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems.
• Strong background with Python, Django, React and TypeScript.

• Experience building customer-facing systems from scratch in early-stage environments.
• Based in NYC and able to work from Flatiron office at least 2 days per week.

Financial institutions process billions of transactions every day across cards, ACH, wires, and third‑party aggregators. But most of that data is difficult to use. Descriptions are inconsistent, merchant names don’t match, and categories vary by payment type.

The Opportunity

As a Full Stack Engineer at Spade, you’ll own product experiences end‑to‑end, working across both the frontend and backend of our enrichment platform. You’ll build customer‑facing interfaces in React and TypeScript, as well as the Python/Django APIs, data models, and platform services that power them. This is a high‑ownership role on a small team, where your decisions will directly shape the usability, performance, and reliability of products processing hundreds of millions of transactions.

What will you be doing?

• Collaborate on our technical vision to build a product customers love
• Build and maintain customer‑facing product experience across React/TypeScript on the frontend and Python/Django on the backend
• Develop and maintain low‑latency, massively‑scalable developer‑facing APIs and a robust data platform supporting our data science team
• Partner with the team to own and improve our engineering best practices and help us scale by keeping our processes effective
• Debug production issues across all levels of the stack
• Bring a strong collaborative approach to deliver value to customers and internal stakeholders at Spade

What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?

Must Have

• 4+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production systems in fast‑paced environments
• Strong background with Python, Django, React and Typescript
• Experience with API development, SQL, and modern front‑end frameworks and technologies
• Experience building customer‑facing systems from scratch, making trade‑offs, and executing autonomously in early‑stage environments
• A product mindset and strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and focus on delivering customer value
• A collaborative mindset, fostering a culture shared success and continuous improvement
• Based in NYC with ability to work out of our Flatiron office at least 2 days/week

Nice To Have

• Experience with Aurora RDS Postgres
• Experience with managing cloud infrastructure via tools like AWS CDK
• Experience with transaction, merchant, and location data
• Familiarity with fintech / data products
• Familiarity with writing performant SQL, using indices and analyzing query performance.
