Job summary

The Village Veterinarian in Central Washington (two blocks from Lake Chelan) seeks a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support doctors and technicians in delivering high-quality care. The role includes a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies with a stipend.

Located in a community surrounded by year-round outdoor recreation, we are partnered with Associated Veterinary Partners (AVP) to provide support while preserving local leadership and autonomy.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary assistant or animal care experience preferred; we are willing to train the right candidate
• Strong work ethic, compassion for animals, and a team-first attitude
• Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced and emergency environment
• Clear communication skills with clients and coworkers
• Availability for a rotating on-call schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to respond to the hospital within 15 to 20 minutes while on call
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams, treatments, and diagnostics.
• Provide safe, low-stress restraint and handling for patients.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and maintain accurate records.
• Prepare exam rooms, surgical suites, and sterilize instruments.
• Maintain kennel cleanliness and patient comfort.
• Communicate with clients and support the front desk as needed.
• Participate in rotating on-call to assist after-hours emergencies.
• Assist with inventory stocking and maintaining a clean hospital.
• Follow safety and infection control protocols.
