AmeriVet’s Mission Valley Pet Clinic in San Diego is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our long-standing, small animal practice serving cats and dogs in the Allied Gardens community. You will support veterinarians and credentialed technicians, assist with examinations, treatments, diagnostics and surgical prep in a compassionate, team-focused environment.

You’ll help with patient histories, vital signs, and records while maintaining clean, organized exam rooms.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
• Familiarity with veterinary terminology, clinical procedures, and infection prevention practices.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills.
• Ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and adapt in a busy clinical setting.
• Attention to detail when documenting patient care and following instructions.
• Willingness to learn and support other departments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist Veterinarians and Credentialed Technicians with examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and surgical preparation.
• Safely handle and restrain patients using techniques that minimize fear, anxiety, and stress.
• Obtain patient histories, record weights and vital signs, and communicate observations or concerns promptly.
• Prepare examination rooms, treatment areas, instruments, and supplies.
• Assist with sample collection, laboratory testing, and diagnostic imaging as trained and authorized.
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed and permitted for the position, with supervision.
• Support surgical and dental patient care within training and supervision requirements.
• Maintain accurate, timely patient records in EzyVet.
• Communicate veterinarian-approved home-care instructions and reinforce client understanding.
• Monitor hospitalized and recovering patients and report changes promptly.
• Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and housing.
• Restock supplies and help maintain an organized, efficient work environment.
• Support reception with phones, client communication, and patient flow.
