Job summary

St. Joseph School District in Missouri is seeking a full-time substitute teacher to cover classes in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

The position requires a Missouri DESE substitute certificate or an equivalent credential, and reports to the building principal. It includes a 9-month (174-day) schedule and may allow telework with supervisor approval.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a substitute or teaching certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • To obtain a Substitute Certificate, candidates must meet one of the following: high school diploma/GED, an associate degree or higher, 36 college credits, or completion of Missouri's 20-hour substitute training program.
  • Preferred: previous teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Attend work regularly, punctually.
  • Telework when requested by the District.
  • Report to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival.
  • Review plans and schedules with the principal, department head, team leader, or secretary.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
  • Teach the lesson as planned by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Consult with leadership before starting any new procedures.
  • Oversee pupil behavior in class, lunch, and recess periods.
  • Submit written reports on daily activities at the end of each day.
  • Follow all policies and procedures applicable to regular teachers.

Salary Schedule: Per-Approved Educational Support Salary Schedule

Direct Report: Building Principal

Terms of Employment: 9 Month (174 day)

Eligible for emergency telework: With Supervisor approval

Purpose: To enable each child to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
  • Review with the principal, department head, team leader, or building secretary all plans, and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Teaches the lesson as planned by the classroom teacher.
  • Consults as appropriate with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the absent classroom teacher.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in the class and during lunch and recess periods.
  • Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Other duties assigned.
