Job summary

Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, NJ is seeking a Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional to support teachers and students with special needs across small groups and classrooms. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 30+ college credits or substitute teacher certification preferred.
• Must be able to successfully complete a New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Criminal History Background Check.
• Prior experience working with children required; experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals with behavioral needs in educational, residential, or clinical settings strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Patience, empathy, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Ability to build positive working relationships and adapt to changing classroom needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to students in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings.
• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEP-aligned instruction and accommodations.
• Support students in completing assignments and participating in classroom activities.
• Adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
• Assist students with daily routines including bathroom use, lunch, playground, gym, and transportation to and from the bus, as needed.
• Implement teacher-directed and approved behavior management strategies.
• Use positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior and student engagement.
• Promote student independence, participation, and skill development.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, counselors, and other staff to support student progress.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and interventions.
• Maintain student safety at all times, including during transitions and emergency situations.
• Monitor student health and well-being, reporting concerns as appropriate.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
• Provide general classroom support including preparation of materials, organization, and bulletin boards.
• Participate in departmental meetings and professional development.
• Follow all school policies related to safety, student care, attendance, infection control, and professional conduct.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
