Job summary

Pillar High School in Livingston, NJ is seeking a dedicated full-time Teacher Assistant to support teachers in delivering high-quality education and individualized student support. The TA will assist the Teacher of the Handicapped and help implement plans aligned with IEP goals, fostering independence and social skills among students.

Responsibilities include assisting with academics, daily routines, therapy groups, and adapting materials to meet diverse needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college coursework preferred.
• Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
• Eligibility for a Substitute Certificate or prior similar experience.
• Must pass fingerprinting and criminal history background check.
• CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction across academics, routines, therapy groups and activities.
• Support students with daily living skills; promote independence.
• Adapt materials and activities to student needs and IEP goals.
• Follow directions and implement lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Apply behavior management strategies per school guidelines.
• Assist with arrival/departure and bus supervision for student safety.
• Follow therapist recommendations including sensory diets and AAC strategies.
• Maintain a professional classroom environment and participate in meetings.
